Another decade, another plumbing issue. This time it is a hose for a kitchen sink that needs replacing. Our usual plumber is unavailable. Can anyone make a recommendation?

I am in my new job now. My office is seriously going after corrupt politicians. Too bad Columbus cannot do the same.

I signed a lease for an apartment. Here is the view:

My first week on the job was exciting. There were a few old friends. I made a bunch of new friends. My supervisor is great. The uber-boss is a friend who respects me. The work is challenging, exciting, and crucial.

Hugh – I’m a coffee runner, that’s what I do. I get people coffee. I’m good at it, in fact I’m the best in the contiguous 48. This makes me sad, makes me complacent. It’s lonely at the top. I need a challenge, and I need a change of coffee fetching scenery.

Public servants need coffee – lots of it, strong and hot. I can provide. I’m the best.

What I’m saying, Hugh, is that you need me. And I need you. In a tropical setting.

Wait a minute, they don’t have street cars? Screw that. Offer rescinded.

Drew, it is really unfortunate, but there already is someone named “Drew” on St. Thomas who serves coffee. He is an old friend of mine who is a co-owner of the Frenchtown Deli. The island is too small for there to be more than one coffee server named “Drew.”

I hear the winters in St. Thomas are terrible.

    Or something.

Also, no streetcar and short buildings.

You are so right Coremodels. Life in paradise is pure, unending hell.

The challenges faced in getting this type of initiative on the ballot is proof that the system needs changing. Initiatives proposed by the council (or its allies) can break any rule and be named in any way they want and still get on the ballot.

Just because the city does not appear to be in trouble now does not mean that change is not needed. The current council is plagued by group-think. The council depends on one member, president Ginther, to raise all the money. None of them seem to have much campaign sense. They talk about ideals then make back room deals.

atlas automotive 233 5206. tell them sherman sent ya. they are transmission mechanics by trade but they work on everything and anything. my suspicion if its loosing coolant it could be a number of things. intake gaskets, head gaskets, coolant system.pat is a good guy and CHEAP!

They must have gone out of business in the last 5 years. I tried calling and I got a robot telling me that AT&T could find me a similar business.

Finding a place downtown or close by would be nice. I could drop off the car then walk to work.

One of the belts on our 2000 Subaru Outback just died. It took out the alternator and the power steering. The other belt right next to it is in the process of dying.

So, does anyone know anyone who works on Subarus close to downtown?

    UPDATE

Ha ha! I should have read the thread to the end before posting my question. The last few comments dealt with Subarus. I think we will try Alternative Auto Care.

Apparently ULTIMATE GENERAL: GETTYSBURG is back on Apple Store, unchanged.

    http://www.ultimategeneral.com/blog/our-game-has-been-removed-from-appstore

I am glad that Apple and the game designer were able to work this out. Not every display of an evil group’s symbol should be viewed as offensive. How can we learn about evil if we refuse to look at any information about it.

The game developer indicated that they were not going to alter the game.

As you may have been already informed (Read Facebook link), Apple has removed our game from AppStore because of usage of the Confederate Flag. Ultimate General: Gettysburg could be accepted back if the flag is removed from the game’s content.

We accept Apple’s decision and understand that this is a sensitive issue for the American Nation. We wanted our game to be the most accurate, historical, playable reference of the Battle of Gettysburg. All historical commanders, unit composition and weaponry, key geographical locations to the smallest streams or farms are recreated in our game’s battlefield.

We receive a lot of letters of gratitude from American teachers who use our game in history curriculum to let kids experience one of the most important battles in American history from the Commander’s perspective.

Spielberg’s “Schindler’s List” did not try to amend his movie to look more comfortable. The historical “Gettysburg” movie (1993) is still on iTunes. We believe that all historical art forms: books, movies, or games such as ours, help to learn and understand history, depicting events as they were. True stories are more important to us than money.

Therefore we are not going to amend the game’s content and Ultimate General: Gettysburg will no longer be available on AppStore. We really hope that Apple’s decision will achieve the desired results.

We can’t change history, but we can change the future.

First of all, no one suggested Apple do this. Second, Apple has done this kind of thing a number of times over the years (including banning a game because Russians were “the enemy”). This is what the free market looks like…libertarians should dig it.

And free market means I can bitch about it and choose to use a different product (which I did).

By the way, thanks for the media server advice. I am probably going to use PLEX with a ROKU…but it may be a few months before I have time to build it.

    UPDATE

On an unrelated point, regarding the Russians, Mae and I are going to watch this documentary series over the next week: RUSSIA’S WAR: BLOOD UPON THE SNOW.

    http://docuwiki.net/index.php?title=Russia%27s_War_-_Blood_upon_the_Snow

I saw it about 20 years ago and was impressed. It deals with Stalin and his leadership of the USSR.

How about this piece of news:

    http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/28845/article/ultimate-general-gettysburg-other-civil-war-apps-removed-from-ios-for-confederate-flag/

A few days after the Charlestown shooting, iOS games that featured the Confederate flag have been removed from the Apple store.

This was first noted by TouchArcade, who specifically found that Ultimate General Gettysburg, as well as Hunter Cow’s Civil war games, including Tank Battle 1942, had been pulled from listings on the store. Later outlets confirmed that a search for civil war games on the App Store shows that games that featured the flag had been completely wiped off the marketplace. Developers were sent removal letters by Apple, explaining that their apps did not comply with Section 19.1 of the App Store guidelines:

19.1 Apps containing references or commentary about a religious, cultural or ethnic group that are defamatory, offensive, mean-spirited or likely to expose the targeted group to harm or violence will be rejected.

The game in question, Ultimate General: Gettysburg is not yet available for Android. I guess the joke is on the manufacturer for spending capital to get the game ready for the iPad first…a marketplace that now refuses to allow it to be sold.

I guess we should expect to see WW II strategy games that use the swastika to represent German units to be banned too. And I hear that one film critic is calling for the movie GONE WITH THE WIND to be removed from distribution.

But the Lords of the contract rule all. We may be able to tell which characters will survive by seeing who returns to the set to film the next season.

Here’s the deal: Melisandre is running around burning people because she’s looking for the Targaryen heir. When they burn John (so he doesn’t “turn”) he’ll be reborn in fire. They specifically showed Melisandre sneaking away and returning to Castle Black after convincing Stannis to burn his daughter. There’s absolutely no reason for her to be at Castle Black other than to figure out that John is the missing heir.

I like the idea of him being reborn through fire because of his R+L=J heritage. Not sure I believe that Melisandre has been running around with that mission though. How would she even know there is a Targaryen heir outside of Daenerys if Ned Stark took that secret to his grave? Burning every person in Westeros one at a time (and at a rate of one every couple of months) is an incredibly slow and ridiculous process.

Slow, but if you toast marshmellows over the fires it can be awfully tasty.
