The view of the homeless in this country must change. There are working poor and low class Americans that have been pushed to shelters. Hopefully this will be a viable place for recession warriors. Good for Grandview.

Rasta: Since December, VRNM and NLY have been my personal money makers– otherwise most of my portfolio is in mutual funds and bonds. As I have more time to devote to research now I plan on being more active in managing my portfolio. I think shorting the yen would be a prudent decision right now as well as being bullish on the dollar.
I too owned NLY Rasta, bought it at 2.00 something last March. I just sold it last week at about 18.00+ I am curious about bonds though. I want to add them to my portfolio and am looking at AA bonds offered by T at a 9% rate for 1-3 yrs.
Can some one ‘school’ me a little on how corporate bonds work and when is the best time to buy? I know that the Fed will increase their rates some time down the road which is bad but am curious.

I have been buying in to NLY between $17-18 and will hold for the short term– if the dividends drop I am screwed though. Right now I feel alright.
Are you holding the bonds in an IRA?

I was looking to buy it individually, is that a bad idea? I have a B.A. in Political Science but I really like finance. How do I go to school for my MAC, and how do I get into corporate finance. I’m also looking at getting an M.B.A let me in on some advice Rasta?

in reply to: I Am Looking For a Job and Have No Where Else To Turn To #351399

BCNation and CU enthusiasts I just wanted to say that this thread has been my life since I graduated from OU summer of 2009. Haven’t landed a “real” job yet! BCNation there is some good advice on here. I worked at the Clintonville Giant Eagle and felt low many days wondering how 4 years of Academia would land me at a Grocery store in which I worked at 14 yrs old. I had to give myself a pep talk everyday to get motivated to work there.

Although after 3 months of toiling there I am working as a Substitute in Columbus and surrounding areas. It isn’t bad and it provides you the flexibility to look for jobs because you get out at 2:30-3:30pm and you can spend the rest of the day job hunting (as it is a full time job). Not to mention if you work 5 days a week for a month you can make about $2000.

I’ve also started with 2 other partners to start a business and we’re meeting weekly. I’ve been meeting with SCORE, SBA and ECDI!

The CU really has been the place that I have felt comfort, especially with topics as this and knowing that I want to be apart of the young and hardworking citizens of Columbus to make the city better. Not to mention the events CU put on to allow me to network and get my mind out of the depressive state of underemployment!

BCNation I’m on the same ship and I swallow my pride everyday because its tough. You’re going to make it though. PM me maybe we can hang out, get a coffee, carpool you over to some interviews or attend some CU events to get some drinks and network.

Hope to see everyone out to grab a piece of the sun for Gallery Hop today. I have an interview this Tuesday CU, so meditate for me!

I’m def interested. I have potential investors, but they are hesitant because its in like 2 days! Columbus could greatly benefit from a carib/latin/mexican place. With good food as well! Hmm. I get so giddy just with the thoughts!

in reply to: Club Ice is up for Auction – March 5th – 2pm #351106

I like the Caribbean theme, maybe w a live latin-carib music, n authentic food?

in reply to: Club Ice is up for Auction – March 5th – 2pm #351090

What type of establishment would be interesting enough to place here? What type of club/bar? Maybe a dive? Or just scratch the thing altogether and start a new concept? What is Columbus lacking that could be useful here?
