I wonder where Lane Avenue Baptist Church will relocate? I assume they are getting a pretty good deal out of this…so they’ll probably re-build a new facility or occupy an old church somewhere.
I think the development around the Commons might be one of the biggest boosts to downtown since the Arena District. With the new park by the river and the Riversouth apartments, this area is ripe for a development boom.
No kidding, stuff is going up everywhere in Cbus….and not in the outer suburbs.
Very nice. I don’t know you could go too far away from traditional in UA without some outcry so this is probably a pretty safe bet. Great to see it meet the street unlike the shops across the street. This will definitely help the area.
Did anyone go to the meeting last night? There is an article in the Dispatch mentioning they are trying to establish a mixed-use development with construction slated to begin by the end of this year.
Is anyone going to the meeting tonight? I’m guessing they’ll have renderings of the new development…
Wow, this is great news for UA. A hotel, apartment complex and office center is the perfect compliment to the Shops on Lane. Now if we could just get a bike “lane” on Lane…
I live in the affected area and someone broke into my LOCKED basement door, but then was scared off (probably because of my dog). They aren’t just targeting unlocked homes and cars. Hopefully the person(s) is caught, but UA residents need to understand crime happens everywhere.

I hate to beat a dead horse but was that “no” in reference to your ability to discuss generally or to the larger project being something other than the Abigail? Thanks!
I can’t discuss specific projects, but several things are brewing/in-the-works downtown in addition to Abigail. Obviously, nothing is final yet and probably won’t be for a few more months.
Overpriced and with a view of White Castle, a freeway interchange and the homeless. These idiot developers have no idea what the age demographic they are aiming for wants (the answer is affordable and on-the-street access). What the developers are looking for in renters is stupid, spendthrift, and upper class twenty somethings in the top 10% of earners for their age. That demographic isn’t going to live sandwiched between industrial Goodale and an offramp with no on-street anything for $1200 a month. This development is the slum of 2025 already.
Well, I believe they obtained a clean-up grant on this parcel and the commercial real estate market currently sucks….so why not develop apartments? I agree its not the best location, but if you have cheap land and a pent up demand for rental units, why not? If done right, it could be a really nice development.
I’m involved with the new Ibiza project and another LARGER apartment complex closer to Columbus State…it will only bring more energy downtown.
The Columbus Commons desperately needs to be developed with 2-level retail space and apartments/condos above. The 2-level retail space really needs to front High Street with outdoor patio and terrace space overlooking the Commons.
Does anyone else feel downtown Columbus just transitioned this weekend? With the news of all the new “downtown-ish” development and the success of the truck & cart fest…I think the downtown buzz is growing ever stronger….August 28, 2011 8:37 pm at 8:37 pm in reply to: Idea: Relocating Crew Stadium to the Arena District #399772
The south side of downtown/German Village could use a little soccer stadium love…the arena district is doing just fine with baseball, hockey, and concerts…
I really hope NRI doesn’t make this an exclusively residential neighborhood. I’d like to see them scatter several small bars/restaurants/shops throughout the neighborhood much like German Village.
