Not really a fan. The husband’s family lives in Dayton and that was my first experience and from that time on I just was never impressed. They opened one a couple blocks from my house here in Cincy and I still don’t have a desire to go. They have some more options but the quality isn’t there.

Just to add a few more suggestions for variety. If you like Sushi – The Painted Fish in Northside or Green Papaya in Oakley are a couple of my favorite spots. The Painted Fish is BYOB with a small corkage fee.

Arnold’s downtown is a great restaurant/bar that has been running since 1861. Burgers, wings, etc…

While I haven’t made it to these spots yet – I have also heard fantastic reviews of Honey in Northside and Senate in OTR.

While they don’t have food, if you decide to enjoy a drink or two – I would definitely recommend my personal favorite – Neon’s Unplugged in OTR. http://www.neons-unplugged.com/

    Enjoy your visit!

I have to second Donut World in Lancaster – and their 24 hour drive thru is both a blessing and a curse…No matter what time I get in town to visit, I can grab tasty donuts.

In the Northside neighborhood of Cincinnati, there is a place that makes great donuts called Bonomini’s Bakery. If you are ever in town and get a chance to try one – I highly recommend it.

This is definitely exciting! Sigh…just another reason to miss Columbus – I’ll have to make an excuse to visit after they open.

I love Peking Dynasty in Grandview on 5th and usually try to stop in during my visits to Columbus.

I’ll also second Rancho Allegro, Cuco’s and Taste of Bali – yum!.

All of this talk about sour ales makes me think back to one of the more unique beers I’ve had. There is a brewpub in Chicago called Piece (great beer and pizza.) I was visiting about two years ago and they had this beer on tap called “It’s Something.” It was a strong dark ale, aged in a woodford reserve bourbon barrels ( for three mos.), with sour cherries. It was fantastic. I’m excited that someone saw Juliet outside of Chicago. I didn’t know Goose Island was selling that out of state.

I’m also working my way threw my last bottles of pumpkin cider and getting ready to chill my Christmas Ale.

Agreed, this is the one game this season I was most worried about.

When we lived in Columbus, we used Swenson Animal Hospital and Village Gate Animal Hospital at different points in time. We were very happy with both and they seemed to be reasonable. We originally called around for quotes and both were happy to provide those numbers.

I definitely second giving yourself enough time. The first couple times I visited, I never did. It really is huge.

Hungrywoolf – great point about the regular grocery store. The first time I went we pulled in the front and got a parking spot so we didn’t really see how large the store was. We walked around and thought it was completely overrated (besides the beer and wine sections and the world famous restroom…) We eventually figured it out…

    I miss Sal.

Sal is the one thing that could make this season even better for me (well I wouldn’t mind seeing Kinsey either…)

The Whole Foods in Cincinnati (the one in the city, not sure about the Mason location) installed their growler system a couple months ago.

I would assume this is something that will be rolled out in as many Whole Foods as possible so I wouldn’t be surprised if 161 installs a system soon.

We are heading to DC this weekend too..there are some great hotel deals in late August.

    I also second visiting Alexandria.

Not sure if it is something your son would enjoy, but one year we rented a limo on the cheap for an hour. The driver took us on a tour of the monuments at night. Someone in our group just went up to the driver while he was making a drop at our hotel and they set it up.

I made a pretty mean pancake with chocolate chips and bacon. We also often use club soda as a liquid so they are a little fluffier.

All of these posts are making me hungry!
