Aside from the corruption discussion, I also see another potential problem. While the idea of more representation for all neighborhoods is a good one, I worry that this would just turn into each one fighting for a piece of the pie for their own agendas rather than supporting any true unified direction for the city at large. I’m not really sure the goal should be pitting one neighborhood against another for attention. The tone of the debate in media has already been that way to some extent, with the arguments against Downtown projects.

I think an even mix of at-large representation and ward-district representation would be the best solution. Creating 20 wards (representing around 4,000 people each) and having 20 at-large representation would be a good way to combat corruption. The equal representation gives the city a vision while ensuring that ward representatives are included in the discussion in order for it to pass. Vice versa, if the wards unify for something this already benefits the city and can also ensure that the at-large representation can’t dictate policy.

The current city government simply can not keep up with the fact that Columbus is expanding so fast. We need better representation of the residents. Not only diverse, but also more voices. Increasing the city council from 7 representatives to 40 would increase the voices as well as increase creativity and more discussion at the city level.

To the people who want a car alternative:

Stop posting about it on online forums. Go to council meetings, go to COTA meetings, do activism to make it happen. Wishing we had a train doesn’t do anything to accomplish it. You need to actually do something about it.

I highly doubt it too, but I’m still overly cautious. And if it’s anything like real time tracking I’ve experienced in other cities, the bus will pass you multiple times according to the real-time map when in fact, no bus has passed by or vice versa. While I generally trust real time tracking, I’m curious to see what kind of flaws the system will have.

I disagree. I use the CABS (Campus Area Bus Service) bus system every day and it has real time tracking and I have never had a problem with the tracking. It’s always refreshing and if there is a delay, you are told so by the system. Although OSU runs a 6 line system, it’s very easy expandable. I just think COTA bite off more than it could chew at the point in time they announced it.

They said it was “a matter of weeks” about 4 months ago; it was indeed a matter of about 11 weeks.

I just think we should be happy its finally arriving and stop complaining. :)

Alot can happen in one week… I’ll wait to applaud.

I highly doubt with the spat of real-time tracking in the past couple years that they would announce this unless they truly believed it. Beta testing began a while back. Some routes on the app are already real time.

*inserts long comment about skyscraper from White Castle that would look like the glass portion of the old proposal*

Could we potentially see White Castle move to a Downtown location… say Two225 or potentially build its own HQ?

Efforts to add nonstop service between Columbus and London are being strengthened by support from Ohio State University and travel data from many of the region’s largest employers.

Representatives of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority and the Columbus Partnership met recently with British Airways officials in London, as they have over the past several years, touting Central Ohio as a thriving metropolitan area that deserves nonstop service to Europe.

The recently completed 250 High building, adjacent to Columbus Commons park was such a quick success that its developers plan to start work less than a block away on a nearly identical building, Two25 Commons, in September, moving forward without tenants in hand.

For what it is worth: Greater Cleveland is NOT in fact much larger than Columbus. Greater Cleveland is considered the MSA, not the CSA.

2015 MSA Figures for Columbus, Cincinnati, & Cleveland:

    Columbus: 2,021,632 (increase)
    Cincinnati: 2,157,719 (increase)
    Cleveland: 2,060,810 (decrease)

If anything, we will actually surpass Greater Cleveland within five years and Cincinnati probably within 15.

About 100 days until the big reveal. Renovations continue at the Main Library downtown with carpeting and drop ceilings being installed and site work ongoing for the new Park Plaza. The new grand reading room (pictured) is coming together on the second and third floors, according to an update provided to the media Wednesday. The two-story space overlooks Topiary Park and the historic Deaf School building that houses Cristo Rey Columbus High School. When finished it will be full of natural light for customers. It used to be a windowless space that contained two separate floors of shelving for books. As part of the renovation, the floor plate was removed and the exterior walls were replaced with floor-to-ceiling windows. The renovated library will reopen on June 25. The renovation and expansion is a $35 million project.

The Broad Street/315 exit is fairly limited and would be hard to reconfigure. The only entrance/exit from 315 is when you’re heading south on 315 and that is it.

Broad Street wouldn’t be the artery used if the Crew did move. It would be Town and Rich that would be the arteries unless ODOT completely reconfigured SR315 between I670 and I70.

We need to ask everyone in the community: Are you ready to open your pocket…

Terrible salesmanship. Leading with the sky high cost is not a good way to be persuasive.

Its a good way to be honest. And honesty is what lays the foundation for trust, especially when it comes to asking for a tax increase for mass transit funding, which we all know will probably have to happen.

EXCLUSIVE: Short North’s White Castle project up for approval with new design
    Jan 14, 2016, 10:29am
Evan Weese | Columbus Business First

Borror Properties is going before the Victorian Village Commission Thursday with revised plans for its eight-story, White Castle-anchored complex in the Short North.

The size of the planned mixed-use development at 965 N. High St., the site of an existing White Castle restaurant, remains unchanged at 98 apartments and 206 parking spots, with 11,000 square feet of street-level retail and 12,000 square feet of second-floor offices.

Uh, I go to OSU. Considering 95% the campus is walking around with Bean boots and North Face winter coats, its safe to say mom and dad have money.

EDIT: Also, a lot of out of state kids who attend OSU pay this crazy thing called out of state tuition, and combined with room and board, the costs of a year of college can cost 60k+ a year.. easily. Also, in state tution (including mandatory room and board) approaches 30k+ a year. Please tell me how exactly that is a 10k+ a year school?
