5XNW just received $1.1 million in sidewalks through a grant-type application that we applied for – for various streets in the area: Ida, Meadow, Northstar, 7th, Virginia and there was one more – will have to look at the documentation for that street. These are slated to go in in the next calendar at some point between this point this year & next – which is a HUGE win for the area! And, something that we are proud to contribute! We have previously installed sidewalks on King, part of Northwest Blvd. and Grandview Ave. utilizing the same UIRF application process which is reviewed by the City – and is distributed among all all of the Area Commissions so we feel very proud that we were one of the groups selected to receive funding for our neighborhood priority which was sidewalks! Third Avenue is supposed to be getting sidewalks, landscaping & a bike path as a part of Nationwide Real Estates plan for the area – as well as road improvements, etc. that was reviewed by Grandview Heights, the City and finally our Area Commission as far as Third Ave. but we will keep a close eye on the area as they rollout their development piece by piece on Third.
Yep Graffiti burger is going to be a press grill! And, the developer putting in the apartments behind Kroger’s is going to do a pocket park/dog park on Chambers where the old gardening center used to be! We asked to do this as a part of his development plan – and feel that it will be an exciting addition to the neighborhood to have additional green space & our first official dog park! We are talking about the Grandview Village apartments off of Chambers & Chesapeake to the West of Krogers… Woo hoo! :)
Try any of the JPMChase branches or the Post Office for money orders and FX exchanges – I believe they both handle these types of transactions! I would recommend the Chase bank at Kingsdale!

Ohio needs to get serious about its water issues. How many lakes now have algae problems every year, and now this? I doubt anything changes though, so long as there is Republican state leadership.
We agree! 5XNW in conjunction with the 43212 Civic and Friends of the Scioto & Friends of the Olentangy have planted trees over the course of the last several years in our neighborhood to contribute a small piece towards helping to remediate pollutant run off into the rivers. But, there need to more widespread efforts overall, a large percentage of the fresh water in the world is contained in the great lakes (for example) however, they are some of the most polluted water ways in the world as well. Ohio was just ranked last or close to last in a nationwide study on water quality as well…

Hello Friends and Supporters of the Fifth by Northwest Area of Columbus,
In preparation for our Neighborhood Pride week (September 23-27), the Fifth by Northwest Area Commission has partnered with several groups to organize a neighborhood clean-up.
The clean-up will take place next Thursday September 19th from 6:00-8:00. The event will kick off at Cap City Diner, and will end there as well with a post clean-up happy hour. We encourage all who are interested in our neighborhood to come out, spruce up our streets, and have some fun with your neighbors.
To organize the event we have teamed up with United Way of Central Ohio and Keep Columbus Beautiful to facilitate some of the logistics. Materials needed for the event will be provided by Keep Columbus Beautiful, while United Way of Central Ohio is helping to recruit volunteers (hopefully you) for the event.
