This could maybe be a fun, group post: Which ‘hate bandwagon’ annoys you the most?

Disclaimer: Just because you dislike the bandwagon doesn’t mean you disagree with them.

Let’s run the pop-socio-cultural gamut: Music, sports, fashion, food, celebrities, politics, Columbus-based, or worldwide, you name it. It can be a mainstream thing or a niche thing.

    I’ll kick it off:

    Nickelback-haters.

We get it… They’re not even that popular anymore. You won! Find something else to hate, please!

Local Ohio State football haters. I get it. You have more important things in your life than football. Spend more time telling me about it, please.

Hating famous young women for acting sexual, being uninhibited, being drunk, etc. and looking at all young women as property of society, someone’s daughters, etc., which leaves no room for ever being a human, having autonomy, or not being an object of display.

    Development haters.

I don’t know if that actually falls into the “hater” column or if it’s just more of a lack of knowledge. I don’t see quite as much of it around here, but there’s a steady stream of commentary via twitter/facebook/instagram that responds to urban development news with generic claims of “too expensive”, “gentrification”, and “neighborhood X is going to be ruined with traffic/people/things”.

We get it already. You want all of the amenities of living in a big city without any negative side effects of living in a big city. Having your cake and eating it too, so to speak.

I’ve always lumped most Development haters into the NIMBY people…”that might work in YOUR neighborhood but Not In My BackYard”. Haters for the most part are just people full of fear and they lash out with anger and thoughtless words.

If all you look for is the negative in life you’ll find it in bucket-loads….

I’d say the same, but I also see a lot of people who very specifically complain that they’d *consider* living Downtown or in the Short North, but the high prices of brand new development are keeping them away.

NIMPBY? Not in my Potential Back Yard?

They don’t understand supply and demand then, or merely don’t realize that demand in those areas is that high. There’s a reason sprawl in some parts of town is so cheap: there’s too much of it!

I will admit to hating how the band sounds. But the concept of Nickelback as a whole is a really good metaphor to use in a lot of situations.

The “this is the worst generation ever” quote from anyone, anytime, anywhere. We get it, you’re old now, people do new things. Oh, bye the way, your parents hated your generation too.

And for the tie: “The world is such a dangerous place!” “We live in such a scary time”. Oh really? Because two super powers have enough nuclear missiles pointed at each other to annihilate the earth five times over thirty years after a war ended that killed 50+ million people. Oh, and murder rate is almost down to the lowest level since we began recording it.

“You really need to go to a 4 year college to make it these days. Weren’t your grades good enough?”

I overheard this topic when someone asked a friend’s daughter when she was going to transfer from CSCC to OSU.

I must be a hard-core hater, I identify with a lot of these groups! :D It will never ever be time to stop hating Nickleback.

Wait! So you’re asking us to admit to being hater haters???

Well, sorry to get political, and I don;t want to de-rail the thread, but I gotta go with Obama haters. Even the staunchest Obama critics on CU pale in comparison to others I encounter who spend unhealthy amounts of time each day regurgitating stuff from their favorite internet sources (he is corrupt! he is violating the constitution! he is incompetent! he is a radical, socialist tyrant! that one’s my favorite, cause it really makes me smile).

    Enough already …

You can tell an Obama hater when they not only mention but accent his middle name… As if that should be a dead giveaway and counts as evidence for their “argument””

That or when they call him a “gay Moslem”…. Lol.

Yea, it’s kind of a meta topic but fun…
