Former Gov. Ted Strickland announced Tuesday that he will not be running for governor in 2014, removing a key competitor to incumbent Republican John Kasich from the field. Kasich, a former investment banker and congressman, unseated Strickland as he sought a second term in 2010. It was the most expensive governor’s race in Ohio history.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland and ex-Youngstown mayor Jay Williams – both Democrats — were tapped for federal jobs today by President Barack Obama. Strickland was nominated to be the nation’s Alternate Representative to the 68th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations. He said the post entails delivering speeches and assisting the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
