lattethunderParticipantYou know, this is an interesting legal question.
Does a township have the right to “take” and demolish property in Ohio?

Yes. They signed a contract with the owner of the properties which stated if the buildings weren’t demolished by a certain point of time, the township had the right to demolish them. Also, another reason is because they pose both physical and criminal safety hazards.

Also, another reason is because they pose both physical and criminal safety hazards.I’m thinking about the legal powers of the township to do that in the first place. Generally townships have less legal powers than incorporated municipalities (most of whom in Ohio still wouldn’t touch a situation like this). Usually when you see a property land banked and/or demolished it’s been abandoned and behind on taxes for some time AND it’s a county or municipality taking the property. So this is kinda weird.
Btw, Just because something’s in a contract (or in this case an “agreement” whatever that means) doesn’t by default make it legally enforceable.

So THAT’S what I drove though! Such a terrifying waste of space. So far it looks a lot better than the old one. At least, I hear of less wrecks there now.

lazyfishParticipantLincoln village west is an armpit, eye sore and a dangerous place to live. It needs to be torn down asap.

I drive through there from time to time. Once you get used to it it’s not that bad.

This intersection has been great. I drive it everyday and the time of day you see it’s affect is during the afternoon rush hour. Before, traffic coming off of 70 to 270 N will run into the log jam created by the Robert’s rd exit. Now, it’s a pretty smooth merge and I can’t recall 1 instance where I was sitting in standstill traffic.
