    Columbus, OH, For Immediate Release:
The owners of Wall Street Nightclub and Showbar announced today that with bar will close after 28 years of business.

Well just about every old time gay bar/club is history now. How many gay bars/clubs are even left?

Let the speculation begin on what kind of development will replace this property!

I wish they would turn the Southeast building on the northwest corner of Long and High into some kind of mixed use thing with ground floor retail and office/apartments above. This plot could be used for parking for the residential part.

Wall St is (was?) the country’s longest running LBGQTA club?

Wall Street was not the nation’s longest running for LBGTQ people by a long shot-
it was initially a lesbian bar when it 1st opened many years ago —
Bars in SF, NYC, Chicago, Key West, etc and other cities have had bars that have been opened much longer—
(Stonewall Inn for example —-) Wall Street didn’t make its debut until after the gay disco scene had began to decline s well as older more established gay bars were still thriving – The Eagle (nee -Kismet), Trends/Garage, Herbie’s, Rudely Elegant on West Broad, the Grotto.

Stonewall closed, and then re-opened in the 1990s:

The Wall Street claim is that they’re currently the longest continually-operating nightclub (1987-2015). A quick google search reveals a couple of bars in New York, New Orleans and Seattle that claim to be the longest continually operating gay bars in the US, but I assume Wall Street is differentiating between bars and nightclubs.

Anyway, semantics aside, the news is sad, and 28 years is roughly 26 years longer than most nightclubs last, regardless of customer demographics. It sounds like it had a very good run.
