NewsParticipantOlde Towne Tavern Owners Launching The Walrus Downtown
October 19, 2014 10:56 am – Walker EvansThe Walrus will be the third venture for Krista Sparks, Brad Hobbs and Kevin Burns, who opened The Olde Towne Tavern in 2012, followed by Corner Stone Craft Beer & Wine in 2013.
“About two years ago we were shown this location for a possible new bar and restaurant concept,” says Burns. “The spot was previously an old nightclub, and with not much live music being offered Downtown, we decided to make a presence for the folks who live, work and play in the area.”

Walker EvansKeymasterWow, blast from the past. I haven’t heard anyone refer to it as the Red Brick District in years. The three champions of that name were Y Sadiq, CJ Daniels and Zettler Hardware, none of which are open anymore. :O
I’ve been calling that general area “South Fourth” for the past year or two, now that there’s a bit of a cluster of businesses there. Of course, that’s not super descriptive since South Fourth runs from Broad all the way down into German Village and even picks up again in part of Merion Village and further south.

TomBParticipantWhile we are at it, what happened to the Market Exchange District? This area’s branding might need some rethinking given the potential redevelopment that may spin off from the Mound Street Connector.
