    The Hills Market to Open Downtown Grocery Store in Spring 2012

    The Hills Market, located at 7860 Olentangy River Road near Worthington, will be opening a new full-service Downtown grocery store in Columbus this spring. The appropriately titled “Hills Market Downtown” will be located at 95 North Grant Avenue.

    Local Grocery Retailer Identifies Need for Store in Downtown Columbus

    Retail can be a tough business. Retail in an urban area like Downtown Columbus can be even tougher. The Hills Market announced today that they’re planning on opening a brand new grocery store in Downtown Columbus next spring, which leaves us asking the question… are they a little bit crazy, or are they ahead of the curve and on to something big?

    As we will soon have Hills Markets on the now-northern-terminus of the Olentangy Greenway in Worthington and new southern extension downtown I propose the annual Hills Market-to-Market Bike Ride, wherein cyclists ride either “down” to the Hills Market for whatever they forgot whilst shopping “Up” at the Hills Market, or vice-versa. This, of course, would be most convenient for those living in Clintonville.

    I can’t wait for this. I won’t exaggerate the results, but it certainly has the potential to keep at least some workers downtown longer to shop. Maybe they’ll realize downtown does not have to evacuate at 5:00PM.

    Some very exciting news for Downtown Columbus. No doubt a huge win for nearby residents and retailers. The future is limitless for this neighborhood. Neighborhood Launch is already one of the most beautiful neighborhoods I’ve seen in this city.

    From the bottom of this article:

    The market also could benefit from another residential and mixed-use development planned four blocks to the northwest of the Neighborhood Launch project.

    Developer George Berardi is applying to the Downtown Commission to build a five-story, 120,000-square-foot building at Spring and Neilston streets that would have 102 apartments on the upper floors and four retail spaces at ground level.

    The $11.5 million Discovery District Commons also would include 71 underground parking spaces.

    The site has a surface parking lot and two smaller buildings.

    What an exciting news day for downtown =D

    Getting from home to Kroger or GE somehow feels like crossing the Sahara when you live here in the Discovery District. This is the greatest thing ever.
