HILLIARD, Ohio  A sunflower painted on a garage has sprouted disagreement between a woman and city officials, who say the mural is in violation of zoning laws, 10TV News reported on Monday.
It took Kelley Daniel three months to paint the mural on the garage of her Madison Street home. She thought the sunflower – which is Hilliard’s official flower – would be appreciated.
Instead, after neighbor complaints, the city slapped Daniel with a citation in December, 10TV News reported.

I think it would be fantastic if the SN Arts District arranged for her to recreate that mural over here. There’s a few spots where that would look really good.March 2, 2010 1:26 pm at 1:26 pm #350835

I bet there would be more complaints about that mural in the Short North than she got in Hilliard.March 2, 2010 1:31 pm at 1:31 pm #350837

Why? Obviously public art has been a part of the SN. Is there something offensive about a sunflower I’m not getting?March 2, 2010 1:41 pm at 1:41 pm #350840

It’s tacky, insipid, and not representative of the image that the Short North is trying to project.March 2, 2010 1:51 pm at 1:51 pm #350842
