    Smothered Gravy Restaurant made its debut at 1114 E. Main Street, in Olde Towne East, on Saturday, March 19th. The “fine comfort food” carryout restaurant features a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu that Owner Eugena Dade refers to as “grandma’s cooking.”

    The warm and inviting décor were completed by Ms. Dade over the winter, in anticipation of this spring opening. The breakfast menu includes everything from Grits with saute’ed shrimp and a biscuit, to the southern favorite of Waffles and Chicken (smothered in gravy or fried), to Smothered Chicken over caramelized onions; and cereal or Resch’s donuts for those on the go.

    The lunch menu includes wings, shrimp and lean ground beef hamburgers, with sandwiches such as Tuna Salad on a croissant and Roasted Turkey. The dinner menu includes Baked Chicken with cabbage, yellow rice, black beans, and corn bread; or Meatloaf with cabbage and potato salad with shrimp; Smothered Pork Chops with mashed potatoes and collard greens is another dinner entre’. The Saturday menu adds Oxtail and Oven Baked BBQ Chicken.

    Dade has a long history of involvement in the Near East, and on E. Main Street in particular. Her aunt owned a Marian’s restaurant, at the corner of Main Street & Gilbert Avenue, for years through the 1960’s.

    With lunches priced around $6.00 and no dinner dish over $9.00, the restaurant offers a great value for wholesome, home-cooking style food, and will be a welcome addition to the growing list of eateries in Olde Towne East.

    Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and from 1:00 to 9:00 PM on Saturday. For more information, contact Ms. Dade at Smothered Gravy: 252-3202.


    Looking forward to trying some dinners out! Would love to be able to get breakfast on the weekends too, if you think about expanding your hours..



    Would love to see some vegetarian options. I work nearby and would love another good lunch spot.
