    June 21: Golden Dragon Acrobats

The Golden Dragon Acrobats represent the best of a time honored tradition that began more than 25 centuries ago. The Golden Dragons are recognized throughout the United States and abroad as the premiere Chinese acrobatic touring company of today. The reputation of the company is solidly rooted in a commitment to the highest of production values and an attention to artistic details that is unparalleled in the art form. The arrangements are presented in a diverse collection of rhythms including meringue, calypso, bembe, cha cha, samba and bossa nova. Male and female vocals along with an eclectic mix of authentic percussion instruments make Yumbambé a unique and exciting group. The band includes some of Columbus’ most prominent Jazz musicians, who have performed with many Jazz and Latin greats.

July 26: An Evening of Bluegrass with Lonesome River Band and Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out

    Lonesome River Band

After 30 in the business, Lonesome River Band continues to deliver powerful, driving bluegrass with a rock-influenced edginess that distinguishes its music from any other. Featuring the remarkable banjoist Sammy Shelor, perhaps the most influential banjo player of his generation, the Lonesome River Band is truly one of the greatest bands in bluegrass.

Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out

Fronting one of the most popular bands in bluegrass history, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out is one of the most influential groups in bluegrass. Garnering more than 50 industry accolades since their inception, their a-cappella renditions of many songs can rarely be matched and their superb instrumentation provides even more quality sound to their rich vocal blend featuring one of the most respected lead vocalists of all time.

Uniting live music and runway fashion all on one stage, Fashion Rocks Columbus celebrates the energetic display of a growing culture of fashion in our city. The Floorwalkers, named “One of Columbus’ most beloved bands” by Columbus Alive!, will offer the soundtrack for this unique collaboration as top local designers and boutiques showcase their inspired looks. An outdoor social event hosted by the Columbus Young Professionals Club will kick off the evening.

    August 16: Rusted Root

Formed in the early 90’s by singer/guitarist Michael Glabicki, Rusted Root’s worldly style quickly charmed fans of roots music and world rock. To date they have released seven albums and sold over three million records worldwide. After debuting in 1992 with the self-released Cruel Sun, Rusted Root signed with Mercury Records and released the 1994 platinum selling breakthrough When I Woke, which featured the massive hits ”Send Me On My Way,” and “Ecstasy” and “Martyr.” Their huge success allowed the band to tour with Santana, The Grateful Dead, Dave Matthews Band, The Allman Brothers Band, HORDE Festival and, perhaps most notably, the highly coveted support role on the landmark Jimmy Page/Robert Plant reunion tour.

    August 23: McGuffey Lane

McGuffey Lane’s high-energy rock, country and contemporary music have been attracting attention throughout Ohio and the Midwest for nearly 20 years. But this veteran band remains fresh and innovative, redefining itself with an infusion of new talent that blends perfectly with the bands established style. Ever since their magical ‘break” when the band was playing the Ohio State campus years ago and got discovered and signed to a record deal, McGuffey Lane has built their career on music which has been both artistically and commercially successful, leading the group to tours with The Charlie Daniel’s Band, The Judds, Marshall Tucker, and The Allman Brothers.

It has also developed DanceReach, a series of educational and outreach programs that serve nearly 35,000 people annually. Through DanceReach, up to 70 scholarships each year give access to talented youth, many from minority and underserved groups, who cannot otherwise participate.

    September 6: Charlie Musselwhite

Harmonica master Charlie Musselwhite’s life reads like a classic blues song: born in Mississippi, raised in Memphis and schooled on the South Side of Chicago. A groundbreaking recording artist since the 1960s, Musselwhite continues to create trailblazing music while remaining firmly rooted in the blues. His worldly-wise vocals, rich, melodic harmonica playing and deep country blues guitar work flawlessly accompany his often autobiographical and always memorable original songs. Living Blues declares, “Musselwhite’s rock-solid vocals creep up and overwhelm you before you know it. He plays magnificent harp with superb dexterity and phrasing. The results are amazing.”

Rhythm on the River is produced by the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department and made possible through the generous support of WCBE 90.5FM, ABC 6/ FOX 28, Donatos, The Westin Columbus and the Scioto Mile Endowment Fund: Columbus Downtown Development Corporation.
