When I visited Scioto Downs a few weeks ago (and lost my $5), I was told by an employee that videopoker would be added late this year. I thought the license agreement specificied no vp. Frankly, the only reason I would go to our local casinos is to play videopoker. Also, their food court prices are astronomical! The buffet had better be good and reasonably priced. Las Vegas, I miss you!July 24, 2012 7:57 pm at 7:57 pm #468638

Food & Games Expand August 4 at Scioto Downs
State’s First VLT Venue Introduces New Restaurant, More Games
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A new restaurant, sports bar and 300 more video lottery terminal (VLT) games debut Saturday, August 4 at Scioto Downs to complement its existing gaming facility and historic harness-racing grandstand, clubhouse and penthouse facilities.
The 24/7-operational establishment located at 6000 S. High Street opened phase one of its two-phase development June 1. Phase two adds an additional 300 VLTs and 27,000 square feet of space to the venue, including a 300-seat feature restaurant called “Grove Buffet” and a high-energy sports bar. Grove Buffet opens at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 4.
“We’ve created multiple dining spaces for our guests, each with their own menu and identity,” said Lee Hirschhorn, Scioto Downs food and beverage director. “Food is an important aspect of the entertainment experience and we look forward to contributing to our visitor’s enjoyment with our new restaurant.”
Food options will range from Italian, American and Asian, to Brazilian-style grilled meats. Signature items include homemade desserts from the restaurant’s pastry chef, the chef’s “Secret White Barbecue Sauce,” hand-tossed wood-fired pizzas and the use of fresh, local ingredients.
The Grove Buffet is open Sunday — Thursday until 9 p.m. and open Friday and Saturday until 10 p.m. Lunch hours are from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at a cost of $15.99 and dinner hours begin at 4 p.m. at a cost of $21.99.
“We are very excited to open the new expansion at Scioto Downs,” said Scioto Downs Vice President and General Manager Troy Buswell. “Our guests can now enjoy the full amenities of our property — more than 2,100 gaming devices, three bars, a new state-of-the-art buffet and our upgraded racing facility. Scioto Downs offers a real gaming and racing experience unique to the Columbus area.”August 28, 2012 6:33 pm at 6:33 pm #468641August 28, 2012 6:44 pm at 6:44 pm #468642
I wish that traffic jam could have been in the Arena District! :(August 28, 2012 6:53 pm at 6:53 pm #468643
Why is this Walker? Also who drives and waits in traffic for $25 that you probably would loose in less than five minutes, then the rest of your money? I guess FREE is really a strong word.August 28, 2012 6:59 pm at 6:59 pm #468644
I was joking.
There’s some folks out there that are still disappointed that the Arena District isn’t getting a casino. I’m not really one of them. ;)August 28, 2012 7:19 pm at 7:19 pm #468645
When I visited SD last Sunday, I went ahead and joined the Players Club. I used my $25 promo and did not win much. What was amazing was, before I signed up, I used my friend’s card and $5 to play a slot machine and won him $127.
The place was very crowded but orderly. The place is very clean and the restrooms have high power hand dryers. I have not tried the buffet. The weekday lunch deal for senior citizens (club members) might be okay. Again, I’ve heard that SD will introduce video poker and blackjack in the lounge, later this year to replace the stupid Keno game.
Frankly, Ohio would make more money off of gambling if bars and lounges were allowed video poker and blackjack games, as in West Virginia. Players would be taxed twice, once on booze and once on any gambling winnings. Then, nobody claimed that Ohio politicians were a smart bunch.August 28, 2012 7:30 pm at 7:30 pm #468646
Luckily, there isn’t anything else that will bring people to the Arena District to tie up traffic.
Send it to the West Side.March 11, 2013 10:44 pm at 10:44 pm #468647
