Red Robin brings quick service restaurant to Ohio State campus
    By Ron Miles
    Published: Thursday, February 9, 2012

Red Robin is taking its gourmet burgers to High Street in late March, but the location will not house a traditional Red Robin experience. Red Robin’s Burger Works, at 1706 North High St., will feature a fast, casual concept behind the beef. Cassie LaBonte, associate marketing manager for Red Robin, said Red Robin’s Burger Works was designed as a smaller and faster alternative to the original Red Robin. There are currently four Red Robin locations in the Columbus, Ohio, area.

Columbus is again playing the role of test market. Denver-based Red Robin Gourmet Burgers is trying its newest restaurant prototype in central Ohio. Red Robin’s Burger Works opened on March 26 at 1708 N. High St. in the University District. “Columbus is already a pretty strong market for us, and people already recognize our brand,” said company spokesman Kevin Caulfield. Red Robin has four restaurants in central Ohio and 16 statewide.

I got comped meals here for their soft opening and I found it to be pretty good, even given the campus heavy crowd.

My one quibble is with the use of the automat soda dispenser (and this is more of a general complaint). I think it’s the poster child for the paradox of choice.

Red Robin on High St closed last week. According to some signage working its way through UARB approval, the replacement is Blaze Pizza – a fast casual build-your-own pizza chain.
