New Proposal Aims To Slow Drivers On Portions Of I-70 & 71

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Monday, Columbus City Council took its first step towards approving a request, by the Ohio Department of Transportation, to lower the speed limit on portions of Interstates 70 and 71 near downtown. The Ohio Department of Transportation wants to reduce the speed limit to 55 miles per hour just west and south of downtown.

City looks at Livingston Avenue reconstruction

The city of Columbus wants to reconstruct Livingston Avenue from Front Street to east of Parsons Avenue. At the German Village Society Board of Trustees meeting July 14, officials from the Columbus Department of Public Service said the city intends to build bike lanes, curb extensions, new sidewalks and make up upgrades to intersections and the streetscape along the neighborhood’s northern border.
The plan comes with a couple of caveats: The city has no money earmarked for construction and is somewhat at the mercy of the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Interstate 70/71 interchange project, which is under development, engineer Bud Broughton told the board.

18th Street Bridge Demolition Tonight Closes Downtown Split

DOWNTOWN COLUMBUS (ODOT/Sean Rowe) — According to a news release from the Ohio Department of Transportation, the other half of the 18th Street Bridge will come down on Friday; weather permitting. This will allow crews to complete construction on a new bridge over Interstate 70 in Columbus.
