    Stonewall Columbus Pride Festival 2013

is Friday, June 21st & Saturday, June 22nd

    at Goodale Park

Parade Saturday, June 22nd – Step-off at Noon

Stonewall Columbus is pleased to announce that Stephen and Joshua Snyder-Hill will be the grand marshals of Pride 2013.

Stonewall honors this recently married couple for their activism and commitment to marriage equality. Stephen is the army officer who submitted a question about Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (DADT) to the Republican debate on September 22, 2011 and was booed as a result. This was an overwhelming experience for the couple and inspired them to fight even harder for full equality.

The couple are also involved in a lawsuit with other service members to gain equal treatment in the military which the so called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) currently prohibits. Both have been active as public speakers and community organizers and have dedicated their lives to fighting for our civil rights.

Just recently, Stephen and Joshua created an event called the CBUS of Love; they will escort twenty-five couples to Washington DC on Friday, June 21 to be married on the US Supreme Court Building steps. The brides and grooms will then be transported to Columbus, Ohio for a honeymoon weekend at the Pride Festival in Columbus, Ohio. They will march or ride on a float and accompany our grand marshals during the parade, share a bite of wedding cake and dance their first dance as married couples near the pride stage. Columbus Ohio becomes the CBUS of Love wedding destination!

“The theme for this year’s pride is ‘Pride Changes Lives’ and so it seems fitting that two gentlemen who have changed the lives of so many in our community are leading our parade,” said Karla Rothan, Executive Director of Stonewall Columbus.

“The Pride Art Show gives gay artists an opportunity to share their creative work in an open and accepting place,” said Joe Spinelli, president/owner of Spinelli’s Deli.

Presented by Stonewall Columbus, the 32nd annual Columbus Pride celebration will be held on June 21 and 22 in Goodale Park. More than 200,000 people are expected to attend the festivities. The Columbus Pride Parade begins at 12:00 p.m. on June 22 and will march through downtown and the Short North. The theme of this year’s Columbus Pride events is “Pride Changes Lives.”

Organizers for this weekend’s gay PRIDE parade will have tighter security measures in place this year. Three gay men were attacked and beaten last week in Columbus. Karla Rothan, head of Stonewall Columbus, says the Boston Marathon bombing also figures into the security plan. Rothan says her organization put together a comprehensive safety plan with the police and fire departments.
