According to 10TV, this parking garage has been condemned. Swung by this morning for a photo though, and there were plenty of cars inside it…

Interesting … I wonder if some redevelopment plans could be dusted off to take advantage of the housing boom. From the fantasy renderings on the Casto thread below. Even by parking garage low standards, this one was an eyesore.

    No doubt!

That garage is definitely in really poor shape. I walk by there a couple times a month at lunch time and you can see the re-bar exposed, concrete crumbling and the floors seem to be sagging. I hope they can do something with it to either tear down and rebuild with ground floor retail or renovate the existing structure (if possible) to help add tome life to Long St.

The one on Marconi across from AEP’s headquarters looks even worse than the one on Long St.

Yeah, there’s a handful of garages that I feel could crumble into dust at any moment. This is one of them, along with the short one (3 stories?) on Marconi between Long & Spring (next to AEP):

Edit: kmg67 beat me to it by 60 seconds! ;)

I’m glad 10TV is calling them out! Too often commercial (for lack of a better term) structures get a pass on not being up to code/dangerous/ugly. For whatever reason, people see no problem calling out their neighbors for code violations, but don’t hold coporate owned property to the same standard.

I refuse to park in this one. It looks like it could fall down at any moment.

I used that one in the late 90’s and would always park on the rooftop even though I would get there early enough to get a spot on the first floor. Did not want to return to my car after work to find a chunk of concrete on the hood! I’m amazed this place is still being used. It does not look like they have spent a dime on it.

That garage is owned by Larry Rubin of Plaza Properties; he is a total scumbag. If his name sounds familiar, he kept the city clean up monies for his property that he sold to the casino in the arena district and the city had to sue him to get it back. I’ve got ton’s of stories on Larry, what a guy.

I’ve been a monthly parker at the Long st. garage for years. It changed ownership a few years back and has been in a state of disrepair and neglect since. It has gotten a lot worse this year- I’ve just put up with it. Then today, I pulled in to park for work& find an ABC 6 news crew there & a sign from the city saying it’s unfit to inhabit. No response from their office by phone or email. I’ve left a message on the parent company ABM’s Facebook page- which interestingly totes themselves as an advocate for green parking solutions. I’ve cancelled my autopayment& will be finding an alternate garage. What a sham! For all the $ they must collect from all the monthly and daily parkers who have been using the facility, they should have been able to afford to make repairs.

I used to park in the old Lazarus garage at Front & Rich and had become increasingly concerned that thing could pancake down and kill someone. Then, after work one evening, I went to the garage and found a large chunk of concrete crumbled around my Blazer and the back window blown out. I left a message with the city requesting someone inspect the garage. They did and left a return message of thanks as the garage had not been inspected for some time. It was condemned and closed three days later.

For years, my friends and co-workers (including those that had to find a new place to park) ribbed me about the garage’s closure, the subsequent loss of the Lazarus department store and City Center Mall, and the general demise of the RiverSouth area.

Now, the tables have turned. From those same friends and co-workers, I seek a wee bit of credit for the new RiverSouth garage, Columbus Commons and the many other good things happening in the heart of this city!

Does anyone know if there are any plans to do anything with this garage? Or is it just another vacant eyesore to hang around for years.
