    States with sweetest corporate tax breaks

    States looking to gin up jobs frequently offer sweet tax breaks to lure in new companies or keep businesses from bolting out of state.

    But some breaks are considerably sweeter than others.

    A new report calculates $64 billion worth of “megadeals” from the past few decades. The report looked at any tax subsidy that cost state and local governments at least $75 million in forgone revenue.

    Columbus continues to outpace Ohio’s economic growth

    Central Ohio’s economy continues to outpace the state’s and nearby metro areas, says the latest quarterly report from the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. Although its recovery decelerated slightly during the second half of 2013, Central Ohio remains “strongly on the path of economic growth” with a quicker pace of employment and output recovery than the state as a whole, according to the Metro Mix report.

    Central Ohio job growth slowing – should we be worried?

    Central Ohio’s job market appears to be settling into a moderate growth pace. According to a quarterly outlook by PNC Financial Services Group Inc., employment levels in the 10-county region are rising at their slowest rate since 2010, forecast at 2.2 percent in 2015, down from 2.3 percent last year. PNC (NYSE:PNC) economists expect Central Ohio employment growth to fall to 2 percent in 2016.
