Heard some of that on npr while I was doing other things. Sounded like the crowd was bored, with only occasional applause. Were you watching, rather than listening like I was? How’d it go over?

I was watching, and he was clearly not the most dynamic or energetic of the speakers, but he did have some interesting content (if not pizazz). Nothing groundbreaking- just the description of his business, particularly with regards to the treatment of employees, that gave me a favorable impression of Costco. Especially when compared to Walmart/Sam’s Club.

It looks more like an extension of the “Easton Square Shopping Center” (across Morse where Walmart is located) or “Easton Market” (on the other side of Morse Crossing where Dicks, DSW, etc are located).

    Traditional strip-mall big-box style development.

I’d be surprised if IKEA built so close to another store.

They have two stores in Maryland and also in the Philadelphia area. They’re just really slow to expand elsewhere, not necessarily averse to proximity.

Ikea chose not to build here, determining it was too close to both their Canton & Pittsburg stores. I think they were looking at the land that Costco was eventually built on up at Polaris. I have a hard time believing they’d build here now… tho that Westland Mall parcel has plenty of space & highway access…

Stop it. Just stop it. Don’t even insinuate that.

From what I’ve read (and granted this was several years ago) they build stores based on regional populations and often take populations within a 2-3 hour drive into account, as many people will travel to IKEA from much further than they would for other stores.

It seems like the areas on the east coast where they’ve built stores closer together seem to be more densely populated at a glance.

I’d love to see one in Columbus, but I’m not holding my breath.

Casino Ikea! Casino Ikea! Casino Ikea!!!

ETA: This caused me to wonder… what if Ikea designers designed a casino?

They already have the cheap buffet down pat. Maybe instead of giving away a car they could have progressive slots with a new kitchen as the prize.

Canton has an IKEA? That’s news to me! I think you meant Cincinnati.

No, I don’t mean the one in Cinci. I mean the one in Canton, MI.

I have always wondered why Whole Foods isn’t anywhere on the Northeast side yet. It would be a gold mine in my opinion.

That, and CEO speech at the convention last night…

don’t believe everything you see or hear. I have met the exec team at Costco, and they are pricks, especially their CfO. Then again, their cfo was the investment banker at jp Morgan who did their iPo. The prick attitude in that company comes from the top down.

That rendering is just craptastic. That’s all I have to say about that. Justifying the reasons NOT to build things like this anymore has become tiresome. And so it goes.
