    Sunbury open to annexation, but won’t seek them out

    The village of Sunbury has two annexations underway related to an attempt to expand the village borders west toward Interstate 71, where developers are battling to build an outlet center.

    When we last wrote about the outlet mall battle in Berkshire Township just west of Sunbury, developers Simon Property Group and Tanger Factory Outlet Centers had just won a challenge to the zoning of their joint retail center at the Routes 36/37 interchange off Interstate 71.

    PLAN FOR DELAWARE COUNTY OUTLET MALL MAY BE NEAR APPROVAL

    Final approval for the Simon-Tanger outlet mall in Berkshire Township could come as soon as the July 24 meeting of the township’s zoning commission, setting the stage for the partnership to be the first to work on an outlet mall in Delaware County.

    The battle over where to build a new interchange for development around the outlet mall got a multi-million dollar promise on Thursday. NorthGate Centre Development is offering 17 to 19 million dollars for a new interchange South of the present Simon-Tanger Outlet Mall interchange.

    Tanger outlet center gets green light after infrastructure funding deal reached

    Delaware County commissioners have approved the funding mechanism for $17.6 million worth of roads to serve the planned Tanger Outlet Mall at the Routes 36/37 interchange off Interstate 71.

    I would agree but Aurora Farms in Greater Cleveland does pretty well. The problem with outlet malls IMO is longevity. Prime example is Lodi, which was dumped by Premium in favor of the new Aurora Farms. I think this one will be in close enough range for a lot of people that it will last for a good while. That being said I still don’t like it.

    Tanger-Simon group buys land for Delaware County outlet center

    Plans for a major retail outlet center in Delaware County took another step toward reality when Tanger Factory Outlet Centers Inc.’s joint venture with Simon Property Group Inc. closed on its purchase of a 66-acre site for the project.

    They should have placed it on the property that Westland sits on. It would have been a boon to the area, taken care of the Westland problem, and not clogged up an already busy area in Delaware.

    None of that matters to outlet mall developers.

    Their goal is to make as much money as possible.

    That would be lessened at Westland.

    New Outlet Mall will Break Ground This Month

    The first of several outlet malls planned for the region will officially break ground later this month. Known as Tanger Outlets Columbus, the new 350,000 square foot retail center will be located just off the Route 36/37 exit from Interstate 71 in Delaware County, in Berkshire Township.
