Motel One is a pretty nice chain of hotels in Germany. I bet there’s been a few funny-to-us-but-unfortuane-for-them mixups because of that.April 20, 2012 8:38 pm at 8:38 pm #493833
Judging from postcards, this was pretty nice decades gone by, when it was called “40 Winks”. Sad how businesses and neighborhoods start out with the best intentions decline like this. Like this who stretch of E. Main, the businesses stayed there for the quick bucks and profit rather than investing in upkeep, maintenance, etc. Sad. That sign though is still pretty neat.April 20, 2012 8:39 pm at 8:39 pm #493834

When my Dad was transferred to Columbus in 1959, Owens-Illinois temporarily housed him in the 40 Winks motel. He ate and drank at the Pink Elephant bar & grill across the street. The area was pretty nice at the time and he ended up buying a house on Ashburton Rd. nearby.March 1, 2013 6:07 pm at 6:07 pm #493837
Trial Underway to Decide Fate of Columbus Motel
Updated: Tuesday, February 19 2013, 08:31 PM EST
The fate of a troubled East Side motel will be decided by a judge. Columbus city attorneys say the Motel One on East Main St. near Whitehall is a public nuisance, and should be shut down permanently. The motel’s owners, however, say they’re victims of the crime in their neighborhood. Proceedings began this afternoon at the Franklin County Courthouse in front of Environmental Court Judge Harland Hale. In April, 2012, Judge Hale ordered Motel One closed and its tenants out. But the motel’s attorney, Titus Donnell, said his clients have tried to complete necessary renovations.
