We let the experts at places like the CDC examine what all of the other countries have done that makes this not happen there with this regularity and start implementing some of their advised changes.

    Just follow Australia’s lead…

    Yea, no thanks.

I can not understand why anyone would look at Australia’s success and say “no thanks.”

The current paper examines the incidence of mass shootings in Australia and New Zealand (a country that is socioeconomically similar to Australia, but with a different approach to firearms regulation) over a 30 year period. It does not find support for the hypothesis that Australia’s prohibition of certain types of firearms has prevented mass shootings, with New Zealand not experiencing a mass shooting since 1997 despite the availability in that country of firearms banned in Australia. These findings are discussed in the context of social and economic trends.

I am not a big gun control proponent but I really hate when I hear gun nuts say that regulations will do ‘absolutely nothing’ to curb gun violence. That’s just patently false.

Immigration, terrorism and gun control are the red herrings that will drive republican turnout, expect to hear more of this noise as the elections get closer.

Some more reading to counter the overreaction. It erodes credibility when people hear certain people and places claiming there is a mass shooting happening every day.

It’s really an issue of mental health, not access to guns. For some perspective here’s the worst school attack in US history.

At work we all had to watch a video about running and hiding during an active shooter event. As near as I can tell that was our entire training.
