    No, it’s of zero importance.

We can judge him on his actions as president. 4 years ago, when his presidential campaign was starting, those records were relevant because he was new to the national political scene and the public knew very little about him. His refusal to release those records showed a character flaw. The media’s willingness to let him get away with disclosure showed favoritism or bias, especially since the media was very active digging for private records of Obama’s opponents.

What are you talking about? Who asked for his academic records before yesterday and why is his refusal to take this nonissue seriously evidence of a character flaw?

fer chissakes can you imagine these same douchebags asking for GW Bush’s academic records? I mean, that would be some good stuff worth reading at least.

I saw requests for his academic records back during the presidential campaign. His campaign ignored them.

For the life of me, I can’t think of a reason (other than an overdeveloped desire for privacy) not to disclose them. The man graduated with honors from Harvard law school. There can only be good things in his transcripts.

So, in 2008 people are asking for his transcripts. He refuses to give them. He wants to control how people see him. Okay, that’s natural. But he wanted to be (and now is) president. You lose a lot of your privacy in that job. If he gets sick, he is going to have to tolerate a lot of public disclose of detailed information regarding his health and medical treatment. Release of this kind of information for other people would be a crime.

Or, maybe he is just a hypocrite. It is okay with him to dig into other people’s private lives but don’t you dare dig into his.

It’s not a character flaw. It’s smart politics. There’s no upside to releasing a transcript. If he aced everything people will resent him as an egghead. If he got a poor grade on something then some will deride him as an idiot. Never mind the scrutiny of which classes he took. “Can you believe he took Socialist Economies of Europe? I knew it!” Furthermore, it’s not pertinent what classes he took 20-30 years ago. It doesn’t define him as a leader now. Finally, it’s not commonplace to release transcripts. Can you point me to the released transcripts of Bush, Kerry, Gore, et al?

Then it is hypocrisy on the part of the media to dig into the private lives of his opponents looking for embarrassing or scandalous information while refusing to look for basic information about Obama’s background.

If he is such a crybaby that he can’t tolerate releasing his school records, how serious will other world leaders treat him.

Fair enough. I still don’t see how it’s pertinent which classes Bush took or why we need to know what Obama took. I find it incredible that any foreign leaders care either.

Of course we all knew how Bush got into Yale. He comes from a wealthy southern oil family who can donate buildings/wings of buildings and was a ‘legacy’. But hey, no one ever had an issue with at.. but when you let in a poor african american college student who went to a liberal school like Occidental…

The issue with releasing anything that isn’t part of the regular precedent is where does it stop? It’s exactly what we’re seeing now… a false furvor is created over the long form birth certificate, now translating into demands for further disclosure. There has to be a point where it’s enough & everyone moves the hell on.

Figure some people will move on only when Obama does.
