Heirloom Cafe in the Wexner Center is excellent, but probably not a part of your criteria for the High St experience. The two stars of Campus, in my opinion, are Diaspora and Commonwealth (if you call that campus).Commonwealth: https://www.columbusunderground.com/review-commonwealth-sandwich-bar
Diaspora: https://www.columbusunderground.com/review-diaspora-korean-japanese-restaurant

How about Pera, Cazuela’s or J. Gumbo’s?

AnonymousInactiveI’d love to see a Fito’s resurrection.

vestanpanceParticipantNow that we’ve officially derailed this thread, it’s time to reminisce. If I could play some games at Pink Flamingo, grab an amazing steamed bagel sandwich from Beekman’s, and go chill in the grime of Insomnia– I’d be thrilled to death and would spend a lot of time down there. As it is, now that I’m graduated, I’ll never go down there.
bah, screw pink flamingo.. touchdown arcade was the spot.
sad to hear about pizza by the slice.

NerosNeptuneParticipantFlying Pizza/Pizza by the slice is way better than it was a few years ago. It’s not something worth traveling for, as with most things around campus, but if you want pizza and are on campus it’s a solid choice if you don’t like Adriatico’s.
Pera always seems to have a good crowd, but I don’t think their food has any flavor. The only thing I really like is the babaganoush. It tasted a lot better when they were Ali Baba.
Moy’s, some things at Amelea, Pizza Rustica and Gooeyz in the gateway, and a newer place around high and 9th called Yau’s Bistro are all worth checking out.

thirstychefParticipantCazuela’s food is generally on the gross side. However, their margaritas are strong.
So drink before you eat, and everything will work out.

jOHnHParticipantWe can’t forget about PJ’s! The Fat Carnie, now that is a drunk meal.

Yau’s isn’t new at all. It’s a hidden campus gem. I’ve been getting food from them since 2005. Their noodle soups are awesome goodness!

NerosNeptuneParticipantah thanks, for some reason I thought it was new. i guess because i never noticed it before, and they are all set up with iPads to put their orders in.
noodle soup is definitely a strong point there!

Mister ShifterParticipantFor those needing a Pizza By the Slice fix, Sal has been running Flying Pizza on Bethel Rd for quite some time. Still tastes identical to how it used to be on campus, same oregano/cheese shakers on the counter, etc.

RolandParticipantI had La Bamba’s once during a college road trip (Ball State mid 90’s). I remember it as a transcendent experience in my life. After a night of drinking, the locals took us there. We stumbled a few blocks, tripping over our own feet. Burritos bigger than your head. This is sounding better every minute. The walls were covered with crazy mural paintings that freaked me out. I don’t even remember what I ordered. I just refer to it as the best burrito I ever had.
10 years later I move to Columbus. I went to La Bamba, stone sober, and ruined my college memory forever.

firecrackersParticipantBeekman’s!!! Sometimes I think I would give up an appendage for just one more Camper Van.
On a more topical note, Bamba’s horchata was delish- is there any place else on/near campus that serves it on the regular?
Also giving a +1 to Flying Pizza on Bethel, the new place on High is just not the same.June 18, 2012 7:21 pm at 7:21 pm #499928
AnonymousInactiveBummer. I enjoyed La Bamba many times in college and definitely went to a rave in the basement space under the shop in 2000. Good times.
