Featured performances during the 2012 Jazz & Rib Fest will also include:

Ramsey Lewis and His Electric Band: As a leader in the contemporary jazz field for over 50 years, Ramsey Lewis is nothing short of iconic. The three-time Grammy winner holds his band to the highest musical standards, while creating new and innovative music that allowed him to cross into the pop and R&B charts. http://www.ramseylewis.com

Christian McBride and Inside Straight: Christian McBride is a renowned Grammy-winning jazz bassist and is considered one of the best of his generation. McBride has had the honor of playing and arranging with legends like Sting and James Brown, and his quintet, Inside Straight, is among one of his many musical projects. http://www.christianmcbride.com

Bobby Sanabria and Ascension: Voted “Percussionist of the Year” in 2005 by DRUM! South African guitarist and singer Jonathan Butler exploded onto the American music scene in 1987, opening for Whitney Houston. Since then, this masterful musician has been a force in R&B, jazz and soul. Canadian saxophonist Warren Hill has topped the Smooth Jazz, Adult Contemporary and Top 40 charts with his smooth and soulful sound. http://www.jonathanbutler.com, http://www.warrenhill.com, http://www.maysa.com

I realize this may not have an easy answer, but when is the best time to go so that I don’t have to wait 3 hours for a rack of ribs?

Can’t wait. One of my favorite festivals of the year. Slightly after lunchtime on Saturday is also good for short lines.

We went last night. Crowds seemed smaller than past years. Which was kind of nice.

It’s hard to believe that it’s already time to lace up those rib bibs and pull out the folding lawn chairs, but indeed Columbus’ annual Jazz and Rib Festival is upon us yet again. For lovers of all things meaty and messy, there’s simply no better place to be this weekend in order to throw down on some of the nation’s best barbecue.

I thought it seemed less crowded for a Friday night too. Weather was nearly perfect. Headed back today.

I wonder if there were too many other things going on distracting people, or if the chance of rain just scared people from attending?
