Really the only question you need to ask is: Do you consider cole slaw to be a condiment or a side dish? That’s where the true north/south divide lies.August 10, 2015 9:48 am at 9:48 am #1088522
people don’t have the same likes and dislikes as me, let’s label the entire state!August 12, 2015 8:47 am at 8:47 am #1088754
I would say no. It’s Midwestern & Appalachian with a bit of “northeastern” in the Cleveland area. What you might be thinking of as southern is probably really Appalachian.August 17, 2015 8:30 pm at 8:30 pm #1089246
If it is, what was all that white stuff I kept shoveling last winter?August 18, 2015 11:36 am at 11:36 am #1089308

It’s snowed all the way to Northern Florida the last few winters.August 18, 2015 11:57 am at 11:57 am #1089314

When it snows in northern Florida, nobody shovels because nobody owns a snow shovel and it melts in a few hours.August 18, 2015 5:30 pm at 5:30 pm #1089368
I may sound like an idiot, but here’s how I see it:
Officially, Ohio is a northern state, geographically speaking. However, I view Ohio as a microcosm of the US as a whole. Cincinnati feels much more southern, and mostly everyone I’ve met from Cinci does too… While Cleveland feels much more northern/east coast as far as ethnicities/buildings etc., goes. You also get more of that northern/midwestern pronunciation. Whereas Columbus feels “central”. We have a very neutral accent and it’s not very distinctive.
But yeah, no, we are not 100% ‘southern’.August 18, 2015 5:44 pm at 5:44 pm #1089370
Paul: You sound pretty smart to me. Maybe that’s why Ohio so often votes for the winner in presidential elections and Columbus is so frequently used to test market new products. I think you’re on to something.August 18, 2015 6:00 pm at 6:00 pm #1089374
This question feels like a third grade geography test.August 18, 2015 6:50 pm at 6:50 pm #1089385
It does and I feel like I’m not smarter than a third grader.
