Really the only question you need to ask is: Do you consider cole slaw to be a condiment or a side dish? That’s where the true north/south divide lies.

I would say no. It’s Midwestern & Appalachian with a bit of “northeastern” in the Cleveland area. What you might be thinking of as southern is probably really Appalachian.

If it is, what was all that white stuff I kept shoveling last winter?

It’s snowed all the way to Northern Florida the last few winters.

    Well that settles it folks.

When it snows in northern Florida, nobody shovels because nobody owns a snow shovel and it melts in a few hours.

I may sound like an idiot, but here’s how I see it:

Officially, Ohio is a northern state, geographically speaking. However, I view Ohio as a microcosm of the US as a whole. Cincinnati feels much more southern, and mostly everyone I’ve met from Cinci does too… While Cleveland feels much more northern/east coast as far as ethnicities/buildings etc., goes. You also get more of that northern/midwestern pronunciation. Whereas Columbus feels “central”. We have a very neutral accent and it’s not very distinctive.

But yeah, no, we are not 100% ‘southern’.

Paul: You sound pretty smart to me. Maybe that’s why Ohio so often votes for the winner in presidential elections and Columbus is so frequently used to test market new products. I think you’re on to something.

This question feels like a third grade geography test.

It does and I feel like I’m not smarter than a third grader.
