Central Ohioans prepare to RideSTRONG for Cancer Survivors
Columbus, OH, September 26, 2013 – Hundreds of cyclists will train for Central Ohio’s largest indoor cycling event: RideSTRONG for Cancer Survivors. The event will be held Saturday, November 9 at the North YMCA from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and feature 100 indoor cycles, celebrity cycling instructors, raffles and two TREK bike grand prizes.
RideSTRONG is as a fundraiser for LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA, a free program which helps adult cancer survivors gain strength, flexibility and balance through a 12-week session. Leading up to the event, riders will train by cycling 250 miles and raise $1 per mile. Riders have made a minimum fundraising commitment of $250, but can raise more.
While riders will begin training October 1, individuals interested in participating can register any time leading up to the November 9 event. An initial donation of $50 is required upon registration. Teams can be formed and then cycle together for a two-hour time slot during the event. This is the second year for RideSTRONG for Cancer Survivors and last year’s event was a success within the community.
Caroline Rankin, director of chronic disease prevention programs at the YMCA of Central Ohio said, “This is truly one of the most amazing programs the YMCA of Central Ohio has been a part of and I am proud of the challenge we have created which increases the riders’ own strengths while raising funds for the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program.”
