Hub Garage To Open Thursday, Adding 250 Parking Spots to The Short North
    Published on September 11, 2013 3:20 pm
    By: Brent Warren

A parking garage featuring 250 public spaces will be the first part of the Hub mixed-use project to open when the gates go up on Thursday. The City of Columbus has been working this week to seal new brick pavers that have been installed in Pearl Alley between Hubbard Avenue and Prescott Street, the last step before the alley can be opened for traffic to allow access to the garage.

The sidewalk is now open along the High St. side. I noticed you can see right through the Melt restaurant. It looked like there are windows overlooking the courtyard. I wonder if that will be open for dining? That could be a cool space.

Are those streetlights staying the way they are; hanging from wires? They look bad.

^ The SN SID is supposed to (eventually) fund streetscape improvements oh High, including traffic signal replacements.

Looks like the final retail spot (corner of High/Hubbard) has been leased. The tenant will be Salon Lofts according both to the plan pictured below (found on the Hub’s website) and Salon Loft’s site, which lists the location as coming soon.

Honestly, I’m a little underwhelmed (especially as they have an existing location in the area already at High/Price). Was hoping for something a little more unique, or along the lines of a ‘destination retailer’ for this spot.

Perhaps they’re closing the location at High & Price, shutting down that little strip mall set-up, demolishing it and building something with more density!

    One can hope.

It’s probably more likely that Salon Lofts is expanding. They’re not a traditional Salon, but more of a “co-op” type environment where individual stylists can operate more like microbusinesses:

I’m sure they do well in the Short North and an expansion across the street would allow for more individual stylists to operate in the neighborhood.

So is Huntington closing their other location down the street?

The wood companies bought the strip mall building at high and price. So I would imagine the current salon lofts building will redevelop in the next couple of years. So the move only makes sense if they are losing their current space.

I thought 5/3 Bank was going in at the Hub and it was stated in the article here: Pricing and Floorplans for the Hub

Yes. They sent out a notice 3-4 weeks ago.

Found this quote in an article from September, it seems that Wood Co does have long-term redevelopment plans for the strip center,

“We’re worried we could be priced out of the neighborhood,” said Emily Monning, who owns the Paradise Garage bike shop at 921 N. High with her husband, Dan. The building was recently bought by the Wood Cos.

“Mark (Wood) said he plans to develop it, but he doesn’t know when,” Emily Monning said. When he does, Paradise Garage might need to find a new home. “I hope we can find another spot in the neighborhood,” she said.
