    Head Games

Casey Riordan Millard, Shark Girl Brick Wall, mixed media

    November 7 – December 20, 2013

    Artist Reception: Thursday, November 7, 2013, 5-8pm

Angela Meleca Gallery is pleased to present, Head Games, an exhibition of new works from Andrew J. McCauley and Casey Riordan Millard.

Columbus based emerging artist Andrew J. McCauley, showcases a series of figurative abstract paintings in his first show with the gallery. McCauley’s interests revolve around the process of transformation as it pertains to the human mind and body. Each composition intertwines figurative and symbolic landscapes with digital imagery that dances and sways from one point of the canvas to the other. Whether on paper or canvas, McCauley’s use of watercolor, acrylic, conte and fabric evokes sophistication, vibrancy and thought-provoking symbolism.

The gallery is excited to introduce for the first time to Central Ohio, Casey Riordan Millard and her ‘Shark Girl’ creations. Over the past decade, Millard has garnered enthusiasts nationwide for her childlike Shark Girl sculptures, drawings and paintings. The concept of Shark Girl comes from Millard’s deep-seeded childhood fear of sharks and death. While she is sorrowful, wandering, and terrified, there is a comic element to this “fish out of water”.

Andrew J. McCauley is currently an Adjunct Professor of Design at the Columbus College of Art and Design. He has won numerous awards including, Lansing, Michigan’s “Best Up and Coming Abstract Artist”, Ohio Governor John Kasich’s Loan Exhibit Purchase Award, and the John Gee Prisma Drawing Award. McCauley has worked closely with developmental organizations like the Multiple Sclerosis Society. He received his BFA from Ball State University in 1999 and was awarded his MFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design in the spring of 2013.

Casey Riordan Millard graduated with a BFA from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, in 1994. She has exhibited her large-scale installations, ceramic works, paintings and drawings in galleries throughout the United States including the Fuller Craft Museum, Brocton, Massachusetts, the Cincinnati Art Museum and the Contemporary Arts Center’s UnMuseum, Cincinnati, Ohio, John Michael Kohler Center for the Arts, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and Packer-Schopf Gallery, Chicago, Illinois. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Cincinnati Art Museum and has been featured in the publications Hi-Fructose Magazine, New American Paintings, Lark Studio Series Ceramic Sculptures, and Lark’s 500 Ceramic Sculptures. In 2009 she received an Efroymson Contemporary Art Fellowship, in 2011 was a finalist in the Cincinnati Art Museum’s Fourth Floor competition, and in 2012 received a Cincinnati Arts Ambassador Fellowship. She lives and works as a full-time artist in Cincinnati, Ohio.
