NewsParticipantHawthorn Grove Apartments plan going back to drawing board for design tweaks
Business First by Brian R. Ball, Staff reporter
Date: Monday, October 22, 2012, 2:48pm EDT
The Community Housing Network has delayed getting approval for a 40-unit housing project on East Rich Street from the city’s Downtown Commission while the nonprofit works on a few lingering design issues with another city panel.
The Hawthorn Grove Apartments plan for independent living rental units for those with mental illnesses did not receive approval from the Historic Resources Commission at that panel’s Oct. 18 meeting. Full approval of the proposed project at 546-558 E. Rich St. would have allowed it to take a fully vetted project to the Downtown Commission on Tuesday.

cbus11MemberI think that is a very nice location for something like this. There are a lot of social services within close proximity. It is good to hear they are working with the commissions on design.

susankMemberI remember when they were planning market rate there. It is a nice location, very close to the library and topiary park.

columbusmikeParticipantI wonder what the design issues are? Seems like the front facade was conditionally approved…the rear of the building must be in question?

bucki12MemberAre there any details on the scope of people who will be living there (type or cause of mental health issues)?

Stephen43215ParticipantWhere exactly is this? I did a Google search of the address and it looks to be where Rich Street turns a corner and heads south. Not sure if this is the exact lot because it seems pretty small. There are 2 other larger lots in the area also.

Walker EvansKeymasterNice! I always forget to grab photos of that spot. You’ve really got to specifically loop over there by car if you want to drive past it.
