rusParticipantNot saying it would work at 3rd and olentangy, but roundabouts really aren’t that bad. That double roundabout over in Hilliard seems to work well.

word. I feel they wouldn’t have had to widen 3rd to make two left turn lanes if they just threw the proper roundabout in.

NewsParticipantGrandview Yard A Thriving Redevelopment
By SAM HENDREN • 6 HOURS AGOOn Monday evening, March 18th WOSU TV presents the latest installment in its Columbus Neighborhoods series. This evening’s presentation is “Tri-Village,” a profile of the communities of Upper Arlington, Marble Cliff and Grandview Heights. A part of Grandview is undergoing some dramatic redevelopment.

Still no sidewalks beneath Third Avenue bridge. Arrrgggghhhh!!!!no doubt.
I complained about this when they closed off 3rd ave for what felt like years.
as someone who walks 10 miles / day around C-bus, this is one MAJOR complaint I have as well.. and there’s no safe way around it other than going up to 5th and coming around the back-way into the giant eagle area.. I used to park my Chevy Volt at the Chargers on Goodale and walk to panera in olde grandview fairly often, however theres areas even trying to get from goodale to the new panera without sidewalks and cars fly on some of those back neighborhood roads.. Starbucks would suffice at times on 5th.. though espresso+me+no-restroom doesnt work so well! I cant believe sidewalks / bike lanes werent a part of the original plan for under 3rd… that is what allows this market plkace to be accessible to the vast short north area.. (esp those that find the thurber village giant eagle getting aged and too small to have a lot of the stuff people want)….

goldenideaParticipantBased solely on drive-by observations: It seems physically impossible to add sidewalks under the existing railroad bridge. The underpass looks too narrow and steep.
Perhaps this much needed improvement has been deferred because they wanted to first focus on actual development of the Yard and wait to see how that impacted traffic? Or perhaps it’s been delayed because they don’t own that real estate (i.e. the road/right of way/railroad bridge, etc.). I believe that earlier someone posted on this thread that a new, wider bridge is planned that will eliminate this bottleneck and will hopefully to include sidewalks & bike lanes. Meanwhile, one needs to be patient and keep dodging the cars!
BTW, even after we do get a new bridge and wider underpass, it will be challenging and expensive to put sideways along the north side of 3rd Ave along/behind the Fort Tribeca garages. Why developers of that complex didn’t build sidewalks along that stretch of the 3rd Ave roadway, while they were building, is hard to know.

They deferred widening 3rd under the RR bridge because Coleman was originally worried that Columbus would pay the big bucks all for the benefit of Grandview development. Given the new Market District, View on 5th, and other associated development in the area (all within CBus city limits), I don’t think there is any concern that Columbus won’t also benefit from spending money to replace the bridge.

RedStormParticipantSorry if this was brought up before (the thread is 53 pages long), but from my understanding NRI/Nationwide owns the land (and perhaps the buildings) near the Chelsea House Design Center. Is that area marked for future development as an extension of GV Yard? Or will those buildings be left alone for the foreseeable future?

RedStormParticipantI think there’s another thread, but the apartments immediately to the West of the Market District (immediately south of Goodwill) – I think they’re called the Apartments on Edgehill – look to have a couple buildings done and are ready for lease.
Once the Nationwide buildings are complete, is it fair to say the next phase will be the northern half of the GV Yard site?
