Gay Hockey Ohio has again partnered with The Ohio State University Athletics Department and the OSU Men’s Ice Hockey team to bring fans the 2nd Annual Pride Night, #PrideattheShott. Pride Night 2014 will be Saturday January 11, 2014, as our Ohio State Buckeyes face off against the Michigan State Spartans at the Value City Arena in the Schottenstein Center, located at 555 Borror Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43210.

Tickets are $10.00 each and can be purchased today at http://www.gayhockeyohio.com. Plan to arrive as soon as the doors open at 6:00 PM and join us for a Pre-Game Cocktail Hour in The Boardroom (The Boardroom is located under Section 127). Parking at the Schott is FREE. The puck will drop at 7:05.

Last season, Gay Hockey Ohio partnered with The Ohio State University Athletics Department, The OSU Men’s Ice Hockey team, the You Can Play Project and Outlook Media to bring Central Ohio the first visual Pride Night in NCAA Division 1 college hockey history.

The mission of the You Can Play Project is simple. “You Can Play is dedicated to ensuring equality, respect and safety for all athletes, without regard to sexual orientation. You Can Play works to guarantee that athletes are given a fair opportunity to compete, judged by other athletes and fans alike, only by what they contribute to the sport or their team’s success. You Can Play seeks to challenge the culture of locker rooms and spectator areas by focusing only on an athlete’s skills, work ethic and competitive spirit.”

The result of these partnerships was a huge turnout of the GLBT community and straight allies, breaking group sales ticket records for OSU Men’s Hockey; a video introduction of the evening by President Gordon Gee, a video welcome by Mayor Michael Coleman and an OSU Men’s Ice Hockey team video filmed for the You Can Play Project that was unveiled in-game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBiRa-lDxPc Ohio State was the first NCAA Division 1 school in the country to film and produce a YCP video.

This season Ohio State Men’s Hockey moved into the B1G conference and the group is looking to make history again: both in ticket sales and as the first and largest Pride Night in the B1G Conference. The day kicks off with a presentation and roundtable with former NFL player and You Can Play Project Executive Director Wade Davis at the OSU Student Union.

Pride Night will be the only game in town and certainly one you won’t want to miss. With close to 10,000 fans, a full student section and The Best Damn Band in The Land, the Value City Arena is sure to be loud and proud.

A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Kaleidoscope Youth Center http://www.kycohio.org, Ohio’s only center for youth and their allies located in Columbus, Ohio.

After the game bring your ticket stub to The Garage, http://garage.thecgsgroup.com/, for free entry to Columbus’ hottest dance club where the bartenders will be slinging some awesome drinks, the DJ will be spinning the newest and hottest sound in town – and the celebration will continue.

To purchase tickets visit Gay Hockey Ohio’s web site, http://www.gayhockeyohio.com. Tickets are $10.00 and available through January 4th to allow time for ticket delivery.
