City Council Approves Funding for Camp Chase Trail
    November 4, 2014 10:20 am – Brent Warren

Cycling advocates and trail enthusiasts have long dreamed of the day that a trail could be built along the Camp Chase railway, which cuts a straight line through western Columbus. That dream is now much closer to reality, as Columbus City Council last night approved $4.2 million to build a 2.9-mile section of the trail between Eureka and Sullivant avenues on the Hilltop.

    Camp Chase Trail

This trail is a multi-use trail in South West Columbus and is part of the Ohio to Erie Trail and US Bicycle Route 50. The newest open segment is from Galloway Road to Sullivant Ave and includes the big bridge over the Highway. The completion of this section creates a nearly 12 mile continuous route between Lilly Chapel, Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park and the Greater Hilltop Neighborhood in West Columbus.

Additional information about this trail can be found at http://www.campchasetrail.co
    Length: 12 miles
    Type: Paved Surface
    TrailHead:
Battelle Darby Creek Trailhead: 8465 Alkire Rd, Galloway, OH 43140 [Restrooms, Picnic Area, Canoe Access, Overnight Car Parking with registration] 39°53′37″N83°12′57″W

Road Access Points between the Metro Park and Sullivant Ave: Darby Creek Drive, Alton Rd, Galloway Rd, Norton Rd, Hall Rd, Sullivant Ave (West of Georgesville Rd).

Points of Interest Along (or near) the Route:
Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park, Indian Ridge Section http://www.metroparks.net/parks-and-trails/battelle-darby-creek/
Civil War Historical Site: Camp Chase Confederate Cemetery http://www.cem.va.gov/cems/lots/campchase.asp
    Columbus Westgate Park https://columbus.gov/recreationandparks/parks/Westgate-Park/
    Prairie Township Community Center http://www.prairietownship.org/131/Community-Center

    Navigation Tips:
Use caution when crossing ALL streets along the Camp Chase Trail and be especially alert at the newest crossings. As a general rule, the further east, the busier the road, crossings at Norton and Hall will often have heavy traffic. Yield until someone stops for you (both ways) or traffic is otherwise clear.

For more information about the Camp Chase Trail visit Friends of Camp Chase Trail, Friends of Madison County Parks and Trails; Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks; and Central Ohio Greenways. For information on next year’s final 3 mile section, visit City of Columbus Recreation and Parks and visit Columbus Public Service for status of the Sullivant-Georgesville sidepath connector project.
