Shale wildcatters may join Wilds menagerie

    By Spencer Hunt

Oil and natural-gas companies eager to tap Ohio’s Utica shale insist that “fracking” poses no threat to people, but what about giraffes, rhinos and zebras? Visitors to the Wilds in Guernsey and Muskingum counties might soon see drilling rigs among the menagerie.

What they do with the poisoned waste-water is a pretty big concern.

We’re talking half a trillion dollars in deposits. If you don’t think Ohio’s environment is going to get sold out, you’re kidding yourselves.

    I’m not against fracking.

I’m against fracking in the largest wildlife preservation site in North America.

Is there any evidence that suggests it threatens the lives of the animals?

Personally I give a crap about fracking, and I’m marginally an environmentalist, but I care a lot about The Wilds- the place is awesome… and if fracking ever wanted an enemy, all they have to do is adversely affect The Wilds in any way and they’ll turn me into a huge eco-whatever and major pain in their ass.

No. There’s also looking at the evidence, which shows NO surface water contamination resulting from “frackn””.

But who cares about reality when “frackn'” is such a bad sounding word?

We should be drilling there too.

16 million acres of land in ANWR, oil on 1.5 million acres of it, 11-13 billion barrels too. Hell, we haven’t even done exploratory drilling to find out how much is really even down there. 11-13 billion is what they can tell from the surface.

Butttt never mind, let’s keep sending the money to Saudi Arabia. That makes sense.

No, I really don’t understand the issue. Obviously haha

If there is no ground water contamination….how can it hurt them? It’s not that hard to build a fence around the well.

I don’t want a combination of benzene, dozens of trucks & drilling equipment, and potential earthquakes to be placed in The Wilds.

    Its really that simple.

Its a wild life preserve…so preserve it and frack elsewhere.
