From the April Dispatch story: “A ground transportation center would include space for light-rail service, should it materialize, between the airport and Downtown.”

PosoleParticipantThe problem with rail in that location is that there’s almost nothing useful for it to stop at between the airport and downtown along the tracks, not that an express service is necessarily a bad thing, but it’s kind of limited. Maybe if they could extend it beyond the airport to Gahanna Pataskala and Newark it could be the start of a true regional commuter system. It could turn Licking County into the next Delaware County.

MichaelCParticipantThe express piece seems like a big win; one way in which Columbus was at an advantage when the RNC and DNC were considering our bid for the ’16 convention was the speed at which visitors could get from the airport to our downtown. Being able to make that trip in 5-7 minutes would more than suffice.
But connecting it on the other end to Easton–at the very least–would make sense at the outset, IMO, to ensure use of the line beyond just travelers.

An express into downtown would be nice to have from the airport, same for Easton. At my company all of our biz travelers stay at Easton so a stop there would be good for visitors headed there as well. I think overtime you could take a line like that and then extend it up to Westerville and down to Gahanna. Not to mention the rout e that heads into downtown can be extended beyond into Grandview/Hilliard pretty easily. (well easily being relative)
It’s embarrassing our city hasn’t been able to get something going on this front. I know living downtown, it would be nice to jump on an express to the airport and then the same back home, or heck even an express to Easton and not have to worry about my car. [/whining]
