    I think it’s grammatically acceptable, though I admit I prefer “who” and “whom” when possible. Regardless, though, reading some kind of deep, symbolic meaning into it was inappropriate.

    Well… George Clinton, the fourth vice-president of the United States was the son of an immigrant (his father immigrated from Ireland). Charles Pickney, who ran for president against Thomas Jefferson,… his mother was from Antigua.

    So no, I don’t think the founding fathers had a problem with the children of immigrants running for office.
