There is a severe lack of sushi downtown outside of Nida’s in the North Market.

Even though I don’t eat sushi I can see your point here. It seems like we have plenty of options for plantains on Gay St. though. :-)

What type of restaurant is missing from Downtown more than any other? I know the options are getting better all the time, but it seems most of the choices are focused on quick, cheap lunch. Is there just no demand for more casual full service restaurants? If you could see one new restaurant downtown what would it be?

I’d also like to add that zpizza is missing from Downtown. ;)

    Good Chinese takeout??

I only know 1 or two places in DT, and that Happy Dragon place is so terrible, I end up driving 20+ mins for a good Chinese take out meal.

I think DT and surrounding have a good selection of places to eat.

Something healthy like sushi would be awesome, they tried over by Quiznos. or smaller portions and prices would also be welcome. a sandwich that cost $10 and feeds 2 is a waste of food.

for dtown chinese I now go to HoToy, Thai Lotus, or Saigon Palace.

A Yakitori Bar would be awesome downtown or anywhere in the downtown vicinity actually.

    Well… sorta…

That place was barely advertised, and barely visible. A closet-sized sushi delivery room where it was trucked in from off site.

I tried it one time and thought it was ok, but I thought their barebones setup was somewhat doomed from the start. :(

A 24/7 diner, preferably with booze.

    +2.

    One of my favorite diners:

Too bad it is about 150 miles away (one way) from here…

    But fortunately I have in-laws in the area… :)

Manticore… have you ever been to Famous Jack’s Diner up there in your neck of the woods?

It used to be located on South Front Street in the Brewery District in the spot where the Kroger sign is located at the Beck Street entrance to their parking lot. The diner was physically uprooted and moved up to Delaware. Pretty wild.

Holy crap. I just stumbled upon an old photo hiding in an archive on my computer that I actually took of this when it was in the Brewery District. I think this was maybe circa 2003-ish?

This is a rough google map streetview of what you’d seen now (the Kroger sign):
