New Hilton hotel to become gallery for central Ohio talent

About 160 paintings, sculptures, photographs and other works — representing a veritable who’s who of central Ohio artists living and deceased — are expected to become a big draw at a new Downtown hotel. Works are being purchased from artists and galleries for the $140 million Hilton Columbus Downtown, opening in the fall on N. High Street in the Short North arts and entertainment district.

Ask Franklin County Commissioner Paula Brooks to identify the greatest champion of a new hotel in downtown Columbus and her answer may surprise you. “It was quite interesting to me to have been approached by the hotel competitors in the industry, who, across the board, said ‘We need another hotel.’ They were essentially lobbying for more competition among themselves, because they understood the capacity issue, and that if we added this 500-bed, full-service hotel, it would actually bring more business to them,” she says.

Convention center Hilton names Sage owner as executive chef

The Hilton Columbus Downtown hotel next to the Greater Columbus Convention Center didn’t have to look far for its culinary leaders. The under-construction destination Friday announced the hiring of two Columbus restaurant veterans to set the food and drink tables for its Gallerie Bar & Bistro and the hotel as a whole. Michael Mejia is director of food and beverage, and Bill Glover is executive chef.
