This is interesting:
Two of Capitol Square’s oldest buildings, which were slated to become a hotel in plans that never materialized, have been acquired for $3.49 million by a developer out of Mississippi.
Columbus Hotel Group LLC, an affiliate of Dawn Properties Inc. of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, purchased the property at 16 E. Broad St. for $1.72 million from a Schottenstein Property Group affiliate, and it paid $1.77 million to another Schottenstein affiliate for 20 E. Broad.
As Business First points out, the buyer specializes in apartments and condominiums, but has also developed two hotels.
The hotels were located in Biloxi, MS and Fayetteville, AR. The residential developments–at least the ones on their website–were not downtown, and appear to be in beach or casino-related vacation areas.
Given the name of the subsidiary group Dawn presumably created for this venture, one would deduce that a hotel is planned for this site. “Columbus Hotel Group LLC”‘s original filing date was July 1 of last year.
(Note: A hotel has been proposed here before, to no avail.)February 4, 2016 2:42 pm at 2:42 pm #1113474
The purchase appears to be related to this news from last summer, no?
Hope they are able to make it work!February 4, 2016 3:14 pm at 3:14 pm #1113487

So both Thrash’s website and Dawn’s website take credit for “The Beach Club Apartments” in Long Beach, MS.
And more interestingly, both websites claim the “Sheraton Four Points Hotel” in Biloxi.
Edited to add: This is now making more sense.
Dawn Properties, the subsidiary of which bought these two properties, has as its president a gentleman named Ike Thrash.
Ike Thrash is, as you’d now guess, the Founding Partner and Managing Director of…The Thrash Group.
The Thrash Group has built a number (though not a ton) of hotels across the South.February 5, 2016 12:09 am at 12:09 am #1113518
Is there anything in these buildings now or are they vacant? Also this would be a great place for a hotel.February 5, 2016 12:54 pm at 12:54 pm #1113579
