A good time to stock up the freezer for the winter.

Good deals on ground beef, chicken, homemade sausages and pork roasts if you were to look in my cart.

Made in Columbus: Carfagna’s pasta sauce

The first ingredient listed on the back of a bottle of Carfagna’s pasta sauce is tomatoes. That’s an important distinction; other sauces list water first, then tomatoes, says Dino Carfagna Sr., because the government requires that labels list ingredients in order of dominance.

    Monday December 23, 2013 12:03 PM

Because whenever someone gets robs there is always large amounts of “cash” that is stolen that needs to be reported to the insurance.

The wife and I attempted to go there yesterday morning for a few ingredients for Christmas dinner. Cars were parked all along the service road leading up to the store. Inside, lines at the meat counter were easily 20 shoppers deep. The checkout was not much better. We decided to go elsewhere mostly due to a time crunch on our part.

Since it was our first time going there during the holiday rush, I’m not sure if the crowd is typical, though that is my guess, or if the community came out to support them after their misfortune. If it was indeed business as usual for them, I don’t see how they could go to the bank after business hours to deposit that amount of cash. I certainly wouldn’t trust a night drop.

That place is crazy leading up to the major holidays, always. Service road parking is the norm, just be glad it wasn’t snowing and muddy.

Yes it is busy this time of year. In addition to cooking I always do some of my stocking stuffer shopping there and make gift bags to take to people’s houses over the holidays, filled with cheeses, dried sausages, candy, espresso, wine and other stuff like that.

    Ohio’s Own: Carfagna’s Pasta Sauce
    Published on February 13, 2014 8:00 am
    By: Miriam Bowers Abbott

Carfagna’s pasta sauce is the sort of thing that could make a dedicated food fan feel stupid. Afterall, Carfagna’s market has been around for a long time— something like seventy-five years. It’s also been making jarred marinara sauce for a long time (although not seventy-five years). So, discovering it only in 2014 makes it feel as though someone (cough, cough) is a little late to the party.

My daughter is fixing us French bread pizza tonight, and this is the only sauce she will allow.
