Most of the threads on this topic are pretty old, so I figured it would be worth starting a new one.

I’m looking for a good place to get a haircut. While I appreciate some of the extra perks and charm of an old-school barber, I definitely want to find a place that is capable of delivering a modern cut.

For years, I’ve continued to go to the small town salon back home when visiting my parents, but I finally decided that it doesn’t make much sense. I’m certain I could find a far more talented stylist in Columbus.

I live downtown and work in Worthington, but anywhere in the area is fine.

How about Old Familiar? It’s old-school and new-school at the same time:

I second Old Familiar. I haven’t had a bad haircut from them at all, and the shop atmosphere is pretty awesome too.

Easily Old Familiar. Best barber shop in Columbus.

You get a free shoe shine (but don’t forget to tip) on the right days.

Between Downtown and Worthington is the Longview Barbershop in Clintonville, just south of North Broadway. I have been going there for over twenty years and it is still great.

Old Familiar is not smoke free, so if that bothers you, check elsewhere.

Although in six visits I’ve not experienced anyone smoking there.

A barber cuts a mans hair, leave stylists to the women folk.

Don’t let my hair scare you off!

Jim Morris at the Mug and Brush does great work.

I would second Longview. I’ve been going there for a couple years and really like the crew there. Very old school. 100+ year old business.

Niko’s Barbershop on Thurman Avenue. If you check out the “street view” on Google Maps, you can see Niko himself sitting on the bench in front of the shop. He’s been planning to move the shop to 3rd Street, just south of Katzinger’s, but I’m not sure what the status of the move is at the moment.

I’ve been going to him for a couple of years and always get a good cut at a good price. But if you go, remember his motto: “Cash Only”

I’ve been to Jim at Mug and Brush too. He always did a great job. I only stopped going because the location wasn’t convenient for me.

I’m a huge fan of Blue Star Barbershop up by Polaris, both for the regular cuts and the straight razor shaves now and then.
