We’re looking for the best burgers in the city. What’s your favorite traditional burger? Non-traditional? Food truck burger?

That’s relatively recent, but even since then we’ve seen a lot of burger-centric places (or places with good high-end burgers) open in the past year.

While the high-quality high-end $15 burger trend is certainly something that I think people are already growing tired of hearing about, they seem to be doing well for the most part, and are upping the ante for what qualifies as a good burger. I think people continue to rave about places like Thurman and Johnnie’s Tavern out of tradition, but are they still the best in town after several decades of new additions and menu changes?

There are so many. I’d say Thurman’s is probably the best, but also the Ringside Cafe in Pearl Alley has some pretty amazing burgers, which is something I don’t think a lot of people are aware of and they are probably the best for downtown. It’s very steak-like in flavor.

I’m going to suggest The Red Door Tavern be added to this list. They do several really good burgers, including the signature Red Door Burger that is topped a fried egg.

I rediscovered the place accidentally this week when a guest I was entertaining really wanted authentic steak fries that also weren’t battered or anything and I remembered that they had real steak fries here (or you can substitute Tater Tots or sweet potato fries). The steak fries were done perfectly.

All around a really solid authentic American burger.

The burgers are 10 oz., hand-pattied:
