Interesting new business expanding to Columbus from Cleveland. Wonder where their three locations will be…

Their website (might be NSFW): http://ambiance.com

    From the Dispatch:

Cleveland chain wants to put three boutiques in area by end of 2011

    THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

A Cleveland-based company that sells lingerie and adult novelties plans to expand into Columbus.

Ambiance, which describes itself as “The Store for Lovers,” anticipates opening three stores in central Ohio within the next year and a half, with the first opening before the end of the year.

Some of the comments seem to be written by Angela from The Office.

We have the Chicken District, maybe it’s time for the Porn District.

Agreed. I vote for the Morse and Westerville intersection. The Lion’s Den is already there. I believe there’s also an adult bookstore across the street from the Lion’s Den on Morse. The new store could be put on either of the empty former car lots located at that intersection. The former Germain lot is even big enough for a super classy adult superstore. It could be the Walmart of adult stores.

How about just north of King Ave… could be “peaches and porn”?

The name Ambience cracks me up.

I can’t help but to think HBO Real Sex.

Reading the website, definitely seems like a pretty good company really. Wouldn’t expect to find a community commitment page on most adult industry websites.

I would think this place would want to be noted as far away from the Lion’s Den and its ilk as possible. From what I gather from the article, it aims to be a woman-friendly sex shop, i.e. to differentiate it from the venues that feel gross and dirty. There are some well-designed women-friendly sex shops around the country in larger cities that have an entirely different vibe to them, such as Babeland, Sugar, Early to Bed, and so on.

    From Sugar:

Babeland is probably the best example of a sex-positive shop that focuses on creating an environment where customers feel welcome to browse items with knowledgeable staff and products removed from packaging. Typically, these stores thrive in areas where their customer base will be well-educated folks, couples and singles alike. I think Columbus would be an excellent site. I’m not sure Ambiance is really on par with the stores listed above, but there is quite a difference between those sites and places like the Lion’s Den.

On West Broad, near the Casino site and the soon-to-be Weston Town Center.

tulip: a toy gallery in chicago is my (& the gf’s) favorite of all of these. a fantastic way to shop. so much better than the garden/chamber/lions den vibe. hell, the closest thing we have to women positive sex shops in columbus is pricillas/cirillas and they’re still aimed at strippers & pervy dudes that love them.

i am totally looking forward to something up this alley. much like the cupcake truck, this was a discussion just a week or two ago about if columbus could/would support something like this. to the point where she was going to e-mail tulip about franchising . . .

In Northeast Ohio, for some reason, Ambiance stores are almost always located next to a Honeybaked Ham shop. No joke. Must have relationships with the same stripmall developlers.
