Any thoughts on what will be arriving for Columbus in 2013? I realize some projects are already decided and everyone has a wishlist of what they want to happen (light rail, creative hubs, etc). But what can happen in 2013?

-The streetcar/light rail conversation will begin anew at a local level, with Mayor Coleman finally using some of his political capital to promote it.

-Ohio State football will be playing for a National Championship.

-We will play host to some sort of tragedy, either natural or man made, that is beyond the scale of anything the city has seen before.

    > Plans will be announced to convert the old Columbia Gas building into condominiums.

    > Plans will be announced to convert the parking lot at State and 3rd into an office tower. Folks on ColumbusUnderground will complain that it is not tall enough.

    > A national retailer will move into the old “Madison’s” building on High St. downtown.

Ah, yes, a few more prediction:

    > The supply of brick will run out. All ongoing Columbus projects will quickly be converted to stucco.

    > Upon the release of the latest iteration of SimCity, Walker will disappear for months at a time from ColumbusUnderground, only to emerge from time to time to update the monthly construction photos with all the new stucco going up around town.

This inspires me to predict 2013 will see the first downtown residential development project done with aluminum siding. A little bit of the ‘burbs, right on High Street!

Columbus will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to fix the river after the dams are removed. The Fecal fountain splash park will attract more homeless, poor and hookers, scaring away all the rich folks it was intended for. Crime will drive people away from the Columbus Commons. Food Trucks will go over the top this summer.

Land annexation has slowed to practically nothing in the past decade.

What’s wrong with our reader survey Best of lists? I don’t really see anything pretentious about them.
