    Nationwide Insurance Picnic with the Pops Announces 2013 Season

    The Columbus Symphony today announced the 2013 season lineup for its two annual summer outdoor concert series—the Nationwide Insurance Picnic with the Pops and Popcorn Pops.

    The 2013 schedule is as follows:

    2013 NATIONWIDE INSURANCE PICNIC WITH THE POPS

    All concerts are held at the Columbus Bicentennial Pavilion (160 S. High St.) in the Columbus Commons. Gates open at 6 pm. Concerts begin at 8 pm.

    Chaka Khan

    Friday, June 14

    During her 40-year career, Chaka Khan has become a music legend, influencing generations of artists in a variety of music genres with hits such as “Tell Me Something Good,” “Ain’t Nobody,” “Clouds,” “I’m Every Woman” and “I Feel for You.” Her 22 albums have earned ten Grammy Awards, 22 Grammy nominations, ten #1 Billboard singles, seven RIAA certified gold singles, and ten RIAA certified gold and platinum albums, including Ask Rufus, I Feel for You, and Masterjam. http://www.ChakaKhan.com

    Tickets are on sale now, and are $23 for adults when purchased in advance by phone at 614.228.8600, online at http://www.PicnicWithThePops.com or http://www.ticketmaster.com, or in person at the CAPA Ticket Center (39 E. State St.). Adult tickets are $25 at the gate on the night of the show. Tickets for children ages 3-14 are always $8 regardless of when or where they are purchased. Children 2 and under are free.

    Central Ohio Kroger Ticketmaster locations will offer Picnic with the Pops tickets at a discounted price of $20 for adults. The $8 children’s tickets are also available for purchase at these locations.

    Picnic with the Pops Lawn Coupon Books are available for $180. The book of ten, non-date specific tickets can be used in any combination for any of the 2013 Nationwide Insurance Picnic with the Pops concerts. Lawn Coupon Books must be purchased from the CAPA Ticket Center before July 2, and will not be available at the gate or Kroger locations.

    Reserved Seating

    Center stage tables are available for purchase at each concert. Tables are sold in parties of 8 or 10, and range from $320-$850. Single table seats can be purchased in any quantity and are $30-$85 per seat. Catering is not included. Table seats can be purchased by phone at 614.228.8600, online at http://www.ticketmaster.com, or in person at any central Ohio Kroger location or the CAPA Ticket Center.

    Food & Beverage Policy

    Patrons may bring their own food and beverages or purchase from on-site vendors. Beer and wine are permitted on-site for Picnic concerts only.

    2013 NATIONWIDE INSURANCE POPCORN POPS

    Sing, dance, and monkey around with the Columbus Symphony at two special family concerts recommended for children ages 3-12. Children will enjoy free popcorn and free pre-concert activities including face painting, art projects, playing with musical instruments, and the Columbus Commons Family Fun Zone with inflatibles and open play activities.

    All concerts are held at the Columbus Bicentennial Pavilion (160 S. High St.) in the Columbus Commons. Gates open at 5 pm. Pre-concert activities will be available from 5:00 to 6:45 pm. Concerts begin at 7 pm and run for approximately one hour.

    The Pointer Sisters to Kick Off 2013 Picnic with the Pops Due to Chaka Khan Cancellation

    On June 5, Chaka Khan Enterprises announced that due to doctor-ordered extended vocal rest, they have been forced to cancel four of Ms. Khan’s scheduled tour dates, including performances in Columbia (MD), Pittsburgh (PA), Toronto, and the June 14 concert with the Columbus Symphony as part of its Nationwide Insurance Picnic with the Pops annual outdoor series.

    The Columbus Symphony today announced that legendary R&B vocal group The Pointer Sisters will now open its 2013 Picnic with the Pops season on Friday, June 14, at the Columbus Bicentennial Pavilion in the Columbus Commons. Now in the 40th year of their internationally successful career, The Pointer Sisters have earned two Grammy Awards and two American Music Awards for their certified triple platinum album, Break Out (1983). They have also been inducted into the Soul Train Hall of Fame and been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The current lineup consists of original members Ruth and Anita Pointer who are joined by Sadako Johnson, the granddaughter of former member June Pointer (1953-2006).

    Multiple Grammy Award-winning R&B vocal group The Pointer Sisters achieved mainstream success with such Top Ten hits as “He’s So Shy,” “Slow Hand,” “Automatic,” “Jump (for my Love),” “I’m So Excited,” and “Neutron Dance.” http://www.ThePointerSisters.com

    No action is necessary for patrons that currently hold tickets to Chaka Khan and wish to attend The Pointer Sisters concert. Khan tickets will be honored at the gates on June 14.

    If current Khan ticket holders prefer a refund, they can return their tickets to the point of purchase.

    First time I attended Picnic with the Pops and won’t be the last (though not sure the rest of this season’s lineup sounds that exciting)

    Patriotic Pops Ticket Holders Can Exchange or Receive Refund

    Due to inclement weather, the Columbus Symphony was forced to cancel the Patriotic Pops concert on Saturday, June 29. Patriotic Pops tickets can be exchanged for any remaining concert on the 2013 Nationwide Insurance Picnic with the Pops schedule based on availability:
