As the sun sets and the hungry arrive, the workout begins for the valet parkers of the Short North.

An attendant takes the wheel of a vehicle dropped outside Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse, pauses at a traffic light and negotiates two more plus a stop sign, making seven turns before parking in a lot east of the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

Then the attendant jogs the quarter-mile back to the restaurant before grabbing another set of keys and completing the circuit all over again.

By the end of a weekend night, most of the college-age valets have run about 7 1/2 miles each. Tips are appreciated.
