    Florin Coffee Opening Shop in North Linden

    Local roaster Florin Coffee has been roasting beans from 874 Oakland Park Ave. for about a year, but soon they’ll add a coffee shop to the mix.

    Florin Coffee will open the doors to its first shop in North Linden this December.

    Co-Owner Hans Hochstedler says the original plans for their space were roasting only to fulfill their wholesale, retail and online orders, but the surrounding community nudged the team towards coffee shop.

    “They would stop in or send us emails,” Hochstedler says. They all wanted to know the same thing, “Are you going to open a coffee shop?”

    Hochstedler and his wife and business partner Joelle live in the neighborhood. They saw the lack of coffee options in the area and decided their roastery would be the one to fill the gap.

    The Hochstedler’s goal for Florin’s coffee shop is for the space to be community-focused and accessible.

    “We don’t want to bring gentrification, but we also want to bring progress,” Hochstedler says.

    Florin Coffee will focus on keeping the prices for the drip coffee and espresso drinks they offer affordable. They’ll also offer tea from another local business, Foraged & Sown, and look to partner with a local maker for some bakery items.

    The cafe will occupy about 350 square feet of space with seating for around 15. There will be wifi, too, for the laptop crowd.

    Hochstedler says there has been a lot of interest from the neighborhood – both from newer residents and folks that have lived in the area for decades. Long-time residents are looking forward to something new coming to North Linden, while others are excited to have a local business to support in a neighborhood with limited commercial space.

    Florin Coffee’s shop will open with more limited hours, likely 7 a.m. until 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, with additional hours as they grow.
